GARRETSON The Sioux Valley Cossacks swept a doubleheader against Garretson on Thursday night.
It was the final regular season game for both teams. The Cossack girls blew out the Blue Dragons, 64-18, and the boys came away with a 69-44 victory.
Each team will compete in the Region 2A Playoffs next.. The girls will kick things off on Tuesday, while the boys will have two weeks off and begin the playoffs on March 7.
Girls
Sioux Valley 64, Garretson 18
It was total domination for the Cossacks on Thursday night. They led 23-9 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 39-14 lead into halftime. In the second half Sioux Valley outscored Garretson 25-4.
Sioux Valley shot 41.7% from the field and was 10-of-29 from three. Keyra Kruse led the Cossacks with 15 points and five rebounds. Kailey Cradduck had 12 points and nine rebounds. Talya Vincent had 12 points and Liberty Trygstad and Miley Keating each had six points.
Garretson shot 28% from the field and was 2-of-5 from three. Taylor Benson had six points to lead the Blue Dragons.
Sioux Valley had a 35-20 advantage in rebounds. The Blue Dragons had 30 turnovers and the Cossacks had 12. Sioux Valley was 4-of-5 at the free throw line and Garretson was 2-of-4.
Boys
Sioux Valley 69, Garretson 44
A strong second half lifted the Cossacks over the Blue Dragons on Thursday.
Garretson led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter, but the Cossacks outscored the Blue Dragons 17-13 in the second and it was 29-29 heading into halftime. Sioux Valley then had a 17-5 advantage in the third and outscored Garretson 23-10 in the final frame.
Sioux Valley shot 46.7% from the field and was 10-of-30 from three. Maverick Nelson led the Cossacks with 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Brady Hiltunen had 12 points and five rebounds. Brock Christopherson had 10 points and five assists. Carter Sapp had nine points and five rebounds. Braden Danzeisen and Tobin Squires each had eight points.
Garretson shot 40% from the field and was 7-of-15 from three. Ian Buettner led the Blue Dragons with 14 points. Treyton Decker had 10 points.
The Cossacks dominated the glass with a 37-22 advantage in rebounds. Sioux Valley had nine turnovers and Garretson had 14. The Cossacks were 3-of-7 at the free throw line and the Blue Dragons were 1-of-4.
