Five Bobcats, one Cossack qualify for state

CLARK Five Brookings wrestlers and one Sioux Valley wrestler qualified for the Girls State Wrestling Tournament on Thursday night.

Brookings had all of its girls at the varsity level qualify for state as Kami Erickson, Bailey Tekrony, Lily Toft, Kendis Sackreiter and Ramsie Hinircher all finished in the top four. Summer Guthmiller was the lone qualifier for the Cossacks and she won the 138-pound weight class.

The Bobcats came in second palace as a team with 92 points. Sioux Valley finished in sixth place with 59.5 points.

The state tournament will begin on Feb. 27 in Rapid City and continues through March 3.

Brookings

Kami Erickson was the only Bobcat to win her weight class as she took home the region title in the 120-pound weight class. Erickson had a bye in the first round and then pinned Kingsbury Countys Payden Coughlin in one minute and two seconds in the quarterfinals. She then won an 11-4 decision over Sissestons Harley Iverson in the semifinals before winning a 12-1 major decision over Sioux Falls Roosevelts SageLynn Culley in the championship match.

Bailey Tekrony came in second place in the 107-pound weight class for the Bobcats. She faced Alondra Romero Mondrago of Milbank in the quarterfinals and pinned her in 33 seconds. In the semifinals Tekrony took on Macee McGregor of Webster Area and won a 4-3 decision. In the championship match she was pinned by Olivia Anderson of Watertown in 5:!8.

Lily Toft came in second place in the 114-pound weight class. She received a bye in the quarterfinals and then won a 3-2 decision over Vi Anderson of Sisseton in the semifinals. In the championship match Toft was pinned by Watertowns Brooklyn Randall in 4:47.

Kendis Sackreiter wrestled in the 235-pound weight class for the Bobcats and came in second place. She took on Leah Neugbauer in the semifinals and pinned her in 1:49. In the championship match she was pinned by Eden Hach in 1:33.

Ramsie Hinricher came in fourth place in the 126-pound weight class. In the quarterfinals she won an 11-2 major decision over Mia Holmstrom of Clark/Willow Lake. Hinricher then lost a 19-3 technical fall to Sully Buttes Cateri Yellow Hawk. She then pinned Sioux Falls Jeffersons Yen Tran in 1:25 before losing an 11-3 decision to Holmstrom.

Sioux Valley

Summer Guthmiller won the 138-pound weight class for the Cossacks. She pinned Faulkton Areas Lilliya Meek in the quarterfinals in 1:20. In the semifinals, Guthmiller won a 17-2 technical fall over Sully Buttes Cheyenne Fuller. She then pinned Dolands Kyla Logan in 58 seconds in the championship.
