Deubrook Area sweeps Elkton-Lake Benton, Flandreau girls fall

The Deubrook Area basketball teams swept Elkton-Lake Benton on Thursday night in Elkton.

In other area action, the Flandreau girls fell to West Central in Flandreau.

Boys

Deubrook Area 57, Elkton-Lake Benton 42

The Dolphins had a 15-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. They then extended the lead to 33-18 heading into halftime. The Elks would cut the lead to 46-35 heading into the fourth, but Deubrook outscored ELB 11-7 in the final quarter.

Isaac Gass and Braxton Bednarek each led the Dolphins with 17 points. Chance Schoenfeld had 16 points.

The Elks were led by Joseph Nibbe who had 13 points. Colt Beck had 10 points and Tanner Drietz had seven points.

Deubrook improved to 10-9 on the season and will play at Flandreau in the regular season finale on Monday at 6:15 p.m. ELB dropped to 12-7 and hosts Flandreau on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls

Deubrook Area 48, Elkton-Lake Benton 27

The Dolphins led 8-7 at the end of the first quarter and then shut out the Lady Elks in the second quarter and took a 22-7 lead into halftime. Deubrook extended the lead to 39-16 at the end of the third quarter and then the Lady Elks outscored the Dolphins 11-9 in the fourth.

Matatya Gouws led the Dolphins with 22 points. Kylee Johnson had nine points and Carly Engelstad had eight points.

The Lady Elks were led by Sydney DeVries who had 13 points.

The Dolphins had a record of 15-5 in the regular season. ELB finished the regular season with a record of 7-12. The Dolphins will compete in the Region 2B Playoffs next week and the Lady Elks will participate in the Region 2A Playoffs.

West Central 58, Flandreau 49

Sadie Iott had 24 points, four rebounds and four steals for the Fliers, but it wasnt enough on Thursday night.

Morgan Sheppard had 16 points, 11 rebounds and three assists for Flandreau.

West Central was led by Kasey Jaton who had 14 points. Ayla Kramer had 12 points and Rayne Goering 10 points.

This was the final game of the regular season for the Fliers. They will compete in the Region 3A Playoffs on Tuesday.
