PIERRE The South Dakota Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research and the South Dakota Board of Regents are co-sponsoring the 2025 South Dakota Student Research Poster Session in the Rotunda of the State Capitol on Feb. 21.
This annual event, now in its 28th year, showcases the cutting-edge research happening in South Dakota higher education.
The undergraduate projects on display include student research in a variety of disciplines. This work speaks to the creativity and industriousness of our students and their desire to pursue a challenging education. Research involvement requires initiative that goes well beyond that of the regular classroom and develops problem-solving skills and specialized expertise. Students who have been actively involved in research make more productive professionals and more active citizens, regardless of their career choice.
This year, 11 undergraduate students from the six regental institutions and tribal colleges are being honored in Pierre, with this special opportunity. These students are supported by SD EPSCoR, the South Dakota Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network, and their own institutions. Their displays highlight the states investments in research, as well as research collaborations among institutions.
It is important for the public and our state policymakers to witness first-hand the outcomes of an enhanced research culture within our educational systems.
This event, which brings students and legislators together with the public, is a positive step toward achieving the interactions needed to ensure robust research in higher education for South Dakota.
