Frost Fest market returns to Brookings

BROOKINGS Compared to todays bone-chilling temps, Saturdays weather was balmy. It was a good day to get out and go somewhere. And folks did to the fourth annual Frost Fest Art Market at the Brookings Arts Council, where vendors brought their wares. The Art Market was just one of several events in Brookings during the 11th annual Frost Fest that went from Friday though Monday.

All local artisans and artists, BAC Operations Manager Eileen Binkley explained of the 12 who had set up stalls and booths throughout the large and small galleries to show off their work. The BAC operates out of what was once a Carnegie library.

The vendors offerings included: painting, printmaking, weaving, crocheting, stoneware, woodcarving and jewelry. All for sale and to take home. Add to that a soft launch new BAC merchandise that will be sold in the future, including stickers designed by children and T-shirts with a new BAC design. Browsers visiting the vendors were also offered free hot chocolate. In the basement children had their own opportunities for craft working all for free. And Girl Scouts were selling cookies.

What weve found in the past is that February is a cold, slow month, Binkley noted. She added, Frost Fest is a great event if youre looking for something to do. We get a lot of families just coming (to the Art Fest) for something to do. You can come and just look at the vendors. Youre not required to spend any money, although I think most people find something theyd like to take home. Weve got a lot of variety and a lot of affordable things.
