Cossack basketball teams handle Parker in Volga

VOLGA The Sioux Valley basketball teams swept a doubleheader with Parker on Saturday afternoon at the Cossack Center.

Each team dominated from the tip as the girls beat the Pheasants 67-38 and the boys won 80-49. The two teams will host a doubleheader on Tuesday against Castlewood. The girls game will tip things off at 6:30 p.m.

Girls

Sioux Valley 67, Parker 38

The Cossacks jumped out to a 21-10 lead after the first period. Sioux Valley then took a 39-23 advantage into halftime. The Cossacks outscored the Pheasants 15-7 in the third quarter and 13-8 in the fourth.

Sioux Valley shot 30.8% from the field and was 9-of-34 from three. The Cossacks were led by Kailey Cradduck who had 14 points, six rebounds and five assists. Talya Vincent had 14 points and Liberty Trygstad had 12 points. Amari Ward had eight points and six rebounds and Keyra Krue had eight points and five boards.

Parker shot 41.7% from the field and was 5-of-17 from three. Jenna VanVelzen led the Pheasants with 17 points.

Sioux Valley had 12 turnovers and Parker 12. The Cossacks had almost doubled the Pheasants in rebounds with a 39-20 advantage. Sioux Valley was 18-of-21 at the free throw line and Parker was 3-of-6.

The Cossacks now have a record of 14-4.

Boys

Sioux Valley 80, Parker 49

The boys game was similar to the girls as the Cossacks built their lead in the first half. They led 27-17 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 41-23 lead into halftime. Sioux Valley then outscored Parker 20-16 in the third and 19-10 in the fourth.

Sioux Valley shot 43.7% from the field and was 11-of-29 from three. Maverick Nelson had another big game for the Cossacks with 27 points and six rebounds. Brock Christopherson had 19 points and five assists. Carter Sapp had 12 points.

Parker shot 38% from the field and was 5-of-18 from three. Tanner Peterson and Landon Wieman each had 12 points. Wieman also had 15 rebounds. Myles Meyer had 11 points.

Sioux Valley had 35 rebounds and Parker had 34. The Cossacks had 11 turnovers and the Pheasants had 26. Sioux Valley was 7-of-13 at the free throw line and Parker was 6-of-13.

The Cossacks are now 9-9.
