Ranger Roundup: Brookings teams earn first-place trophies in Iowa

Varsity Girls

The Brookings Rangers girls varsity team won four games over the weekend to take top honors at the Riders Cup Series tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Brookings 3, Quad City 1

Miyah Foerster, Sawyer Triplett and Maya Edmison scored for the Rangers as the opened tourney play Friday with a victory. Anna Rasmussen had a pair of assists and Ashton Otteson and Kinzey Grendler had one each.

Rorii Quam made 13 saves between the pipes to backstop Brookings.

Brookings 4, Omaha 1

The Rangers kept rolling Saturday morning.

Grendler paced the offensive attack with two goals and an assist. Grace DeVries also scored, and Ava Kahle finished things off with an empty netter off a feed from Rasmussen.

Brookings 4, Glenview 1

Grendler again led the way, picking up a hat trick. Emily Meyer had the other Rangers tally.

Kahle, DeVries and Shauna Pederson had assists.

Quam made 18 saves to earn the win.

Brookings 1, Sioux Falls 0

In a game worthy of a tournament final, Brookings scored the lone goal of the game with less than a minute to play in regulation to earn the win.

Foerster found net off a Rasmussen feed to win it for the Rangers.

U14 Girls

The U14 girls team also won its division in the Cedar Rapids tourney.

Brookings 5, WCYHA4

DeVries scored twice for the Rangers, and Jordyn Anderson, Otteson and Khloe Ziegeldorf added goals.

Brookings 0, Madison 0

The teams skated to a scoreless tie in pool play.

Brookings 5, Elmbrook 1

DeVries and Anderson each tallied twice and Otteson had a goal and an assist.

Brookings 11, Omaha 0

The Rangers blew out the Lady Lancers.

Kruse had a hat trick, and Beatrix Hovey-Stubbles added a pair. Anderson, Koch, Katie Vandersnick, Nelson and Audrey Andal all scored for Brookings.

Brookings 3, Madison 1

The Rangers got the better of the rematch to bring home the hardware.

Devries scored twice for the Rangers and Koch added the third.Otteson and Kruse had the assists.

Junior Varsity

Brookings 4, Sioux Falls West 0

The Rangers moved to 11-2-1 in league play with a road victory over Sioux Falls.

Andrew Hahn led Brookings with a pair of goals. Camden Reicks and Carson Kludt were the other scorers.

Jason Ready, Mavrick Bortnem, Connor Buckley, Mauer Bartley and Cooper Schneider all had assists.

Brookings outshot the Flyers 46-18 as Paxtyn Pottorff got the win in net.

Bantam A

Brookings 7, Oahe 0

The first-place Rangers cruised to a shutout win as seven different players scored.

Weston Diers, Ethan Foerster, Atwood Ahmann, Thor Zell, Kallen Serfling, Grant Horn and Jack Lovseth all buried one for Brookings.

Lovseth and Foerster chipped in a pair of apples each, with Colt VanMaanen, Carter Nielsen, Zell, Serfling, Colin Jacobson, Tegan Jensen and Graham Gerlach getting one apiece. Jon Drew staved off sleep to earn the shutout as Brookings outshot the Caps 48-4.

Brookings 10, Brandon Valley 0

Lovseth led the way with a hat trick and a playmaker as the Rangers thumped the Ice Cats.

Also scoring for Brookings were Foerster with two and Diers, Zell, Cannon Friedrich, VanMaanen and Atwood Ahmann.

Zell and Nielsen had a pair of assists each, while Foerster, Gerlach and Jacobson each chipped in one.

Drew earned another shutout as Brookings outshot Brandon 52-2.

Pee Wee A

Brookings 8, Watertown 2

The Pee Wee A Rangers started their weekend and stayed hot with a win at Watertown.

Owen Rounds and Oliver Ahmann chipped in two goals each for Brookings, while Branch Otteson, Coy Friedrich, Theo Treml and Myles Anderson each found twine.

Treml, Ahmann, Max Harris, Jacob Mhyre and Ryker Schumaker were all credited with assists.

Brayden Brintnall got the win in goal, making 10 saves.

Brookings 4, Rushmore 2

The Rangers stayed hot back home at Larson Ice Center on Saturday.

Rounds, Harris, Ahmann and Gavin Zweibahmer were the scorers for Brookings. Harris, Ahmann and Rounds had an assist each. Brintnall made 14 saves in the win.

Brookings 4, Rushmore 1

The Rangers skated past the Thunder on Sunday to earn the weekend sweep.

Friedrich, Schumacher, Myles Anderson and Ahmann were the scorers. Give Ahmann the only assist.

Brintnall made 20 saves between the pipes to pick up the win.

Pee Wee C

Brookings 6, Watertown 2

The Rangers skated past the Lakers to move to 7-1 in league play on Friday night.

Cooper Hyde paced the Rangers offensive attack with four goals. Brodie Bahe and Spencer Lovseth each also scored for Brookings.

Nash Billings turned away 13 pucks as the Rangers outshot Watertown 41-15.
