Sioux Valley boys come up short in overtime

Deuel 56 Sioux Valley 52 OT

VOLGA Sioux Valleys attempt at a come-from-behind-win came up short, as the Cossacks fell to Deuel 56-52 in boys basketball Tuesday.

The Cossacks faced a 43-35 deficit heading into the fourth period. Sioux Valley outscored the Cardinals 14-6 in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 49 and force overtime.

But Deuel scored seven points in overtime to claim the victory.

Maverick Nelson led the way in scoring for Sioux Valley with 20 points. Carter Sapp also had a good night for Sioux Valley, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Brock Christopherson also hit double figures in scoring for Sioux Valley with 10 points. Tobin Squires was the Cossacks second-leading rebounder with seven.

Deuel had two players hit double-figure scoring, Caden Finnesand with 17 and Gabe Sather with 16. Sather was the leading rebounder for the Cardinals with nine.

The win pushes Deuels record to 11-5 and Sioux Valley falls to 9-8.

GPL 44 Deubrook 37

WHITE The Great Plains Lutheran downed Deubrook 44-37 in high school boys basketball Tuesday night.

The Dolphins carried a 27-16 lead into the halftime locker room. But the Panthers came back in the second half, knotting the score at 30 at the end of the third quarter and pulling away in the fourth period.

Deubrook had two scorers hit double figures Chance Schoenfeld with 13 and Isaac Gass with 12.

The Panthers Brody Scharlemann was the the games leading scorer with 14. Hayden Karli had eight points for GPL.

De Smet 50 Flandreau 48

FLANDREAU The visiting Bulldog team came away with a closely contested 50-48 win Tuesday.

The Fliers had two players break double-figure scoring, Alfie Henderson with 15 and Kody Kneebone with 12.

De Smet also had two players, Grant Wilkenson and Ganon Henrich, with 23 and 12, respectively.
