BROOKINGS In the wake of the resignation of Brookings High School head football coach Brady Clark on Monday night, the school district is moving forward with plans to find a replacement.
The process is just starting, Jeff Dvorak, director of activities, said. I will talk with Superintendent (Summer) Schultz about just how we want to list (the job posting) exactly whether its with teaching or without teaching. We kind of have to figure that out. Were not really sure yet. So thatll be posted hopefully in a week or so, I guess. And then you got to give it several weeks to run its course and see who applies.
He said they welcome external and internal applicants.
There might be folks in-house that apply and maybe some from outside, Dvorak said. I think weve got some nice, good solid coaches on our staff. I dont know if any of them are interested, so Id have to see and have those conversations. I dont know we might have the next Kalen DeBoer out there waiting to apply.
He said the next step would be interviewing candidates.
Well put a committee together, Dvorak said. I kind of have a tentative group. Im not 100% sure yet, but Ive got a few good names that Im going to put on a committee with me. Well meet with applicants and well go from there.
He said the next coach will inherit a strong team.
There are some expectations out there for us in the next few years some good young kids and some good senior leadership, Dvorak said. I see my part in this as two-fold. I have my typical AD things about organizational things and motivational things. But Im meeting with half a dozen or more of the boys, and Im asking them questions about what they like about our program and things they might be looking for in a coach because I think its really important for them to have a voice. So Im going to go into those interviews, meetings and search (process) with a good sense of what our boys are looking for.
The Bobcat football team is coming off an 8-3 season.
We had a good year of football not just in our record, Dvorak said. I feel good about where our program is at, and I feel good about the ownership that our players and our parents and our community has. I think were ready for you know, we had a winner this year but were ready to continue that in our community. My message is keep getting out there and supporting the Bobcats not just in football but in everything.
Clark served as Brookings head football coach since March 2020, replacing Lee Schmidt who coached for seven seasons after taking over for Gary Maffett.
I got nothing but good things to say about coach Clark and what he brought and the family atmosphere and what he did, Dvorak said. Im very proud of what hes done and working with him. He will be missed.
