Brookings Rotarians stepped up to join members of the Madison Rotary Club and other area volunteers to pack meals that will be sent to feed hungry people in Africa.
The project was presented to the club recently by Madison Rotarian Scott Parsley, whose club was partnering with Kids Against Hunger and Helping Kids Round First to pack and arrange delivery of non-perishable meals to extremely destitute, hungry people in Chad. The goal for the project was 100,000 meals, each containing protein, rice, vegetables and nutritional supplements that goal was exceeded by 675 meals.
The meals will be shipped to Chad via a long and sometimes treacherous journey, implementing numerous humanitarian connections that will ultimately deliver the meals to hungry people in the war-torn country. The process may take months.
Rotary is an international service organization whose motto is Service Above Self. The Brookings Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at noon at the Brookings Activity Center, 320 Fifth Ave., and guests are welcome. For more information visit www.BrookingsRotary.org.
