Cossacks sweep doubleheader with Beresford

BERESFORD The Sioux Valley basketball teams swept a road doubleheader against Beresford on Thursday night.

The Cossacks girls won 65-39 and the boys had a 63-40 victory. The girls improved to 10-2 and play Lakota Tech in Volga on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The boys are now 7-6 and play De Smet in the Pentagon Classic on Saturday in Sioux Falls.

Girls

Sioux Valley 65, Beresford 39

The Cossacks outscored the Watchdogs in every quarter on Thursday night.

Sioux Valley had a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and then extended the lead to 28-19 by halftime. Sioux Valley led 46-33 at the end of the third and then outscored Beresford 19-6 in the final frame.

Sioux Valley shot 38.3% from the field and was 7-of-27 from three. Kailey Cradduck had a big night for the Cossacks with 26 points and eight rebounds. Talya Vincent had 16 points and Liberty Trygstad had eight points and six rebounds. Keyra Kruse had six points and 11 boards.

Beresford shot 20.8% from the field and was 3-of-23 from three. The Watchdogs were led by Ella Merriman and Lily Seivert who each had 15 points.

The Cossacks had a 35-26 advantage in rebounding. Sioux Valley had 11 turnovers and Beresford had 20. The Cossacks were 12-of-16 at the free throw line and the Watchdogs were 16-of-21.

Boys

Sioux Valley 63, Beresford 40

The Cossacks were led by Maverick Nelson who had 23 points.

Beresford was led by Malachi James who had 23 points as well.
