Burglars hit Valley Mart in Volga

VOLGA A burglary at Valley Mart in Volga on Thursday that resulted in cash being taken from video lottery machines is being investigated by the Brookings County Sheriffs Office.

Two individuals were involved in the 11:41 a.m. incident, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring wrote in a Thursday afternoon news release. They left southbound on Caspian Avenue, made their way over to 464th Avenue and then continued south.

Sebring noted that a South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks officer found discarded clothing believed to have been used in the incident and that Valley Mart wasnt the only business targeted by the pair.

It was later found the vehicle had been stolen from Sioux Falls and the same individuals had attempted to break into another video lottery machine at a business in Brookings, he wrote.

The incident is being investigated by the sheriffs office and Brookings Police Department. Personnel from the South Dakota Highway Patrol and sheriffs offices in Moody and Lake counties assisted as well.

The public is reminded not to approach the suspects if they are seen and to notify law enforcement immediately by calling 911, Sebring wrote.
