Brookings Birding Club to discuss Costa Rican birds on Feb. 12

The Brookings Birding Club will hold its February meeting on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Larson Nature Center classroom at Dakota Nature Park. Our speaker will be Gray Tappan.

The title of his talk is “Watchable Birds and Landscapes of Costa Rica” The photo above is of a Lessons Motmot, one of the Costa Rican birds we dont see in South Dakota.

Grays slide presentation will take participants to Costa Rica incredibly, home to more bird species than in all North America. Costa Rica is the most visited country in Central America. It has one of the highest percentages of protected land of any country in the world preserving its amazing natural diversity and wildlife.

Through photos from a recent trip, Gray Tappan will take us on a virtual tour through Costa Ricas six life zones, showing examples of the birds and landscapes found in each.
