MITCHELL The Sioux Valley boys basketball team lost to Mobridge-Pollock 55-41 in the Hanson Classic on Saturday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
The Cossacks fell behind early and trailed 17-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers then extended their lead to 31-20 by halftime. MP then outscored Sioux Valley 21-9 in the third quarter and took a 52-29 lead into the fourth. The Cossacks outscored the Tigers 12-3 in the final frame but it was too little too late.
Sioux Valley shot 26.8% from the field and was 6-of-24 from three. Braden Danzeisen and Maverick Nelson each scored 14 points to lead the Cossacks.
Mobridge-Pollock shot 36.7% from the field and was 7-of-19 from three. Shooter Frederick led the Tigers with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Shane Henderson had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Easton Eisemann had 12 points.
The Tigers dominated the rebound battle 41-17. Sioux Valley had 13 turnovers and Mobridge-Pollock had 19. The Cossacks were 5-of-5 at the free throw line and the Tigers were 12-of-19.
The Cossacks are now 6-6 and play at Beresford on Thursday at 8 p.m.
