WHITE The Sioux Valley boys basketball team moved over .500 on Thursday night with a 58-43 win over Deubrook Area.
The Cossacks (6-5) trailed 16-13 at the end of the first quarter. Sioux Valley then outscored Deubrook 10-2 in the second quarter and took a 23-18 lead into the locker room.
The Dolphins opened the second half with an 8-2 run to take a 26-25 lead. Sioux Valley then closed the third quarter with an 11-4 run and led 37-30 heading into the fourth. In the fourth the Cossacks pushed the lead to 51-31 with a 14-2 run to start the quarter and that put the game away.
Sioux Valley shot 49.1% from the field and were 4-of-12 from three. Maverick Nelson led the Cossacks with 19 points and six rebounds. Carter Sapp had 12 points and seven boards. Braden Danzeisen had 10 points and Brady Hiltunen had seven points.
Deubrook shot 28.3% from the field and was 5-of-19 from three. Chance Schoenfeld had 11 points and five rebounds to lead the Dolphins. Isaac Gass had eight points and six rebounds. Joshua Moberg and Braaxton Bednarek each had seven points.
The Cossacks had a 29-21 advantage in rebounds. Sioux Valley had eight turnovers and Deubrook had 14. The Cossacks were 2-of-6 at the free throw line and the Dolphins were 12-of-14.
Sioux Valley plays Mobridge-Pollock in the Hanson Classic on Saturday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell at 11:30 a.m. Deubrook dropped to 6-6 and plays Sully Buttes in the Dakota Conference Classic in Elkton on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
