The Elkton-Lake Benton boys and Colman-Egan girls won in basketball on Thursday night.
The ELB boys beat Colman-Egan and the CE girls topped ELB. Both Iroquois/Lake Preston teams lost in the 281 Conference Tournament on Thursday as well.
Boys
Elkton-Lake Benton 70, Colman-Egan 65
ELKTON Joseph Nibbe and Tanner Drietz each scored 23 points for ELB and the Elks took down the Hawks on Thursday night.
ELB trailed 19-13 at the end of the first quarter but then cut the lead to 37-32 by halftime. The Elks then outscored the Hawks 20-16 in the third quarter and trailed 53-52 heading into the fourth. In the final quarter ELB outscored CE 18-12 and that led to the victory for the Elks.
Eliot Erickson and Colt Beck had seven points for the Elks. The Hawks were led by Jackson Zwart who had 21 points. Jase Mousel had 18 points. Taylor Kriech had 11 points and Jack Mousel had 10 points.
ELB improved to 8-2 on the season and plays Canby on Saturday in the Dakota Valley Conference Classic in Elkton at 7:45 p.m. Colman-Egan fell to 5-6 and the Hawks play at Castlewood on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 60, Iroquois/Lake Preston 40
HURON The Blackhawks were able to beat the Sharks for third place in the 281 Conference Tournament.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Blackhawks then outscored the Sharks 18-13 in the second and led 32-23 heading into halftime. They would extend the lead to 44-31 by the end of the third and then SCW outscored ILP 16-9 in the final frame.
The Sharks were led by Lucas Peskey who had 18 points and four steals. Ervin Carter had seven points and eight rebounds. Carter Arbeiter had six points.
Payton Uecker had 14 points to lead the Blackhawks. McCoy Schulz had 11 points and Landon Jensen had 10 points.
ILP dropped to 5-6 and plays at Castlewood on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m.
Girls
Colman-Egan 57, Eltkon-Lake Benton 14
ELKTON The Hawks improved to 12-2 on the season and have now won six straight games.
Colman-Egan was led by Kaylee Voelker who had 17 points. Brynlee Landis had 14 points and Jolie Flatten had 11 points. My Reiff had six points.
Sydney DeVries led the Lady Elks with six points. Charlie Thooft had five points and two steals.
The Hawks will take on Castlewood on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. ELB dropped to 3-8 and will play Edgerton in the Dakota Valley Conference Classic in Elkton on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Wolsey-Wessington 45, Iroquois/Lake Preston 33
HURON The Warbirds were able to edge out the Sharks in the fifth place game of the 281 Conference Tournament.
Each team scored eight points in the first quarter. The Sharks then outscored the Warbirds 12- 7 in the second quarter and led 20-15 heading into halftime. WW then had a strong third quarter as the Warbirds had a 19-8 advantage and took a 34-28 lead into the fourth. The Warbirds then outscored the Sharks 11-5 in the final quarter to put the game away.
Hadlee Holt led the Sharks with 10 points and six steals. Kera Dubro had nine points. Chenoa Harin had five steals.
Shae Uttecht had 15 points to lead the Warbirds. Kendal Uttecht had 10 points.
ILP fell to 3-9 and plays at Castlewood on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m.
