CHESTER The Sioux Valley basketball teams each picked up victories on Tuesday night during a doubleheader with Chester.
The Cossack girls improved to 7-2 with a 52-40 victory and the boys moved to 5-5 with a 65-49 win. The boys will play at Deubrook Area on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The girls will take on Dell Rapids in Volga on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Girls
Sioux Valley 52, Chester 40
The Cossacks used a strong second h\alf to come away with the double-digit win.
Sioux Valley trailed 10-8 at the end of the first quarter and Chester led 22-17 at halftime. The Cossacks outscored the Flyers 18-13 in the third quarter to tie things up going into the fourth. Sioux Valley then put the game away in the fourth, outscoring Chester 17-5 in the final frame.
Sioux Valley shot 40% from the field and was 5-of-24 from three. Keyra Kruse had a big game for the Cossacks with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Kailey Cradduck had 13 points and Talya Vincent had 12 points. Liberty Trygstad and Amari Ward each had five points.
Chester shot 23.6% from the field and was 5-of-19 from three. Jace Wolf led the Flyers with 18 points and five rebounds. Emmerson Eppard had eight points and nine boards.
Sioux Valley had a 36-28 advantage on the glass. The Cossacks had 16 turnovers and the Flyers had 17. Sioux Valley was 3-of-5 at the free throw line and Chester was 9-of-14.
Boys
Sioux Valley 65, Chester 49
Maverick Nelson scored 30 points to lead the Cossacks to the win on Tuesday night. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.
The Cossacks led 17-9 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 41-28 lead into halftime. Each team then scored 14 points in the third and Sioux Valley had a 10-7 advantage in the fourth.
Sioux Valley shot 38.9% from the field and was 14-of-26 from three. Brady Hiltunen had nine points. Braden Danzeisen and Brock Christopherson each had eight points. Carter Sapp had 13 rebounds in the win.
The Cossacks outrebounded the Flyers 33-23. Sioux Valley had seven turnovers and Chester had eight. The Cossacks were 9-of-11 at the free throw line and the Flyers were 5-of-8.
