The Brookings Rangers boys varsity team went 2-0 in their two games over the weekend. The Rangers beat Sioux Falls East on Friday night and then blew out Pierre Oahe on Saturday.
The Rangers are now 10-1 on the season. They host a pair of games this weekend. Brookings plays Yankton on Friday at 8 p.m. and then will take on Sioux Falls East on Saturday at 8 p.m.
Brookings 4, Sioux Falls East 2
SIOUX FALLS Each team scored one goal in the first period. Cooper Deatherage gave the Rangers the lead with 9:13 left in the first period. His goal was assisted by Nolan Krogman and Waylon Carroll. Ryan Fenton then tied things up with 44 seconds left in the period and his goal was assisted by Braydon Goddard.
Jay Harris would then regain the lead for the Rangers with 4:50 left in the second period. It was a power play goal and it was assisted by Luke Honkomp. Deatherage would net his second goal of the game with 14:44 left in the third period. That goal was assisted by Caleb Johnson and gave the Rangers a 3-1 lead.
Fenton would cut the Ranger lead to 3-2 with 9:28 left in the game and it was assisted by Maxwell Kallas. Riley Linstad would push the lead back to two with 4:30 left in the game and he was assisted by Maxten Jensen.
Brookings had a 38-33 advantage in shots. Matthew Bothe was in net for the Rangers and had 31 saves.
Brookings 11, Pierre Oahe 0
BROOKINGS The Rangers netted three goals in the first period. Tre Christopherson got the scoring going with 10:50 left in the period and he was assisted by Honkomp. Krogman made it 2-0 with 2:44 left in the period and he was assisted by Talon Hyde. Harris then pushed the lead to 3-0 45 seconds later and he was assisted by Honkomp and Jackson Heller.
The Rangers scored two power play goals in the second period. Jensen scored the first one and he was assisted by Linstad and Hyde. The second one came with just over 10 minutes left in the period as Linstad scored and was assisted by Hyde.
Linstad pushed the lead to 6-0 just over a minute into the third period and he was assisted by Hyde. Hyde then scored a goal of his own five minutes later and he was assisted by Honkomp and Linstad. Harris then scored an unassisted goal just over a minute later to make it 8-0.
Linstad then scored back-to-back power play goals in a span of 54 seconds. The first one was assisted by Honkomp and Harris and the second one was assisted by Jensen and Honkomp. Waylon Carroll scored the final goal of the game for the Rangers. It was on the power play and was unassisted.
Brookings had 57 shots and Oahe had seven. Bothe had the shutout in net for the Rangers.
