Brookings swept in doubleheader in Mitchell

MITCHELL The Brookings basketball teams were swept in a doubleheader on Friday night at the Corn Palace.

The boys lost 59-33 and the girls fell 56-28. Both teams will play Huron at home on Tuesday. The girls game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. and the boys game will follow at 8 p.m. In between the games there will be a dedication ceremony for the press box in Bob Jostad Gymnasium being named the Dellas Cole Press Box.

Boys

Mitchell 59, Brookings 33

Brookings trailed 17-11 at the end of the first quarter and the Kernels then took a 38-15 lead into halftime. Mitchell then extended the lead to 51-20 heading into the fourth. The Bobcats outscored the Kernels 13-8 in the final quarter.

The Bobcats shot 27.5% from the field and was 3-of-13 from three. Bergan Tetzlaff led Brookings with 10 points and six rebounds. Brodie McCarty had eight points and Johnathan Kahler had six points.

Mitchell shot 53.1% from the field and was 3-of-16 from three. The Kernels were led by Markus Talley who had 20 points and six rebounds. Gavin Hinker had 12 points and eight rebounds. Colton Smith had 11 points and five boards.

Mitchell had 30 rebounds and Brookings had 14. The Kernels had 11 turnovers and the Bobcats had 16. Mitchell was 8-of-9 at the free throw line and Brookings was 4-of-6.

The Bobcats are now 0-7 on the season.

Girls

Mitchell 56, Brookings 28

The Bobcats were led by Clara Delbridge and Macy Even who each had six points. Logan Smidt had five points.

Mitchell was led by Londyn Hajek who had 20 points. Addie Siemsen had 18 points.

Brookings fell to 4-3 on the season.
