Sioux Valley, Arlington and Deubrook Area all picked up victories in girls basketball on Thursday night. The Cossacks beat McCook Central/Montrose, Arlington defeated Elkton-Lake Benton and Deubrook Area topped Estelline/Hendricks.
Sioux Valley 58, McCook Central/Montrose 45
SALEM A strong second and fourth quarter allowed the Cossacks to get the win on Thursday night.
Sioux Valley led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored MCM 17-11 in the second quarter. The Cossacks led 42-34 at the end of the third quarter and then had a 16-11 advantage in the final quarter.
The Cossacks shot 38.6% from the field and were 7-of-25 from three. Keyra Kruse led Sioux Valley with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Kailey Cradduck had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Talya Vincent and Amari Ward each had 10 points.
MCM shot 31% from the field and was 5-of-16 from three. The Fighting Cougars were led by Ella DeKnikker who had 12 points and six rebounds. Mya Morrison had 10 points and Mandi Schock had eight points.
The Cossacks had a 37-23 advantage in rebounding. Sioux Valley had 12 turnovers and MCM had 14. The Cossacks were 7-of-11 at the free throw line and the Fighting Cougars were 14-of-22 at the charity stripe.
Sioux Valley improved to 6-2 and will play in the DSU Shootout on Saturday in Madison.
Arlington 65, Elkton-Lake Benton 30
ARLINGTON The Cardinals had a strong first quarter and never looked back on Thursday. They led 24-2 after the opening quarter and then took a 43-17 lead into halftime. Arlington then outscored ELB 22-13 in the second half.
Arlington shot 51.1% from the field and was 8-of-19 from three. Jaelyn Huntimer had another huge night for the Cardinals with 30 points. Sony Johnson had 13 points. Madayln Madsen and Ellisyn Vincent each had eight points. Vincent had nine rebounds and Madsen had seven rebounds.
ELB shot 22% from the field and was 6-of-22 from three. Charlie Thooft had 10 points and eight rebounds. Payton Kuehl had nine points.
Arlington had 35 rebounds and ELB had 28. The Cardinals had 17 turnovers and the Lady Elks had 23. Arlington was 9-of-11 at the free throw line and ELB was 2-of-3.
Arlington improved to 6-4 and plays Hanson in the Hanson Classic at the Corn Palace in Mitchell on Saturday at 10 a.m. ELB dropped to 3-6 and plays at Canton on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Deubrook Area 45, Estelline/Hendricks 35
WHITE The Dolphins used a strong first half to earn the victory on Thursday night. Deubrook led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 26-15 lead into halftime. The Redhawks cut the lead to 34-28 at the end of the third quarter but the Dolphins outscored them 11-7 in the final frame.
Zoey Molengraaf led the Dolphins with 12 points. Mataya Gouws had 11 points and Kylee Johnson and Matte Bauman each had nine points.
Three Redhawks had eight points in Danelyn Greene, Alya Texley and Pressly Bury.
Deubrook improved to 8-2 and plays Lakota Tech in the DSU Shootout in Madison on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Estelline/Hendricks fell to 2-9 and plays at Oldham-Ramona-Rutland on Monday at 7 p.m.
