Cardinal, Flier girls victorious on Tuesday

The Alrlington and Flandreau girls each earned wins on Tuesday night in basketball. The Cardinals beat Deuel and the Fliers topped Garretson.

The Elkton-Lake Benton and Arlington boys and the Estelline/Hendricks girls lost in other area action.

Girls

Arlington 56, Deuel 39

ARLINGTON Arlington used a strong first half to earn the victory on Tuesday.

Arlington outscored Deuel 36-18 in the first half. They would extend the lead to 49-28 at the end of the third and that allowed them to cruise to the win in the fourth.

Arlington shot 40% from the field and was 6-of-21 from three. Jaelyn Huntimer had a big game for the Cardinals with 27 points and nine rebounds. Sony Johnson and Madalyn Madsen each had seven points. Johnson had eight rebounds.

Deuel shot 33.3% from the field and was 3-of-13 from three. Camdyn Peterriens had 14 points and six rebounds. Jaycee Hourigan had 10 points.

Arington improved to 5-4 and hosts Elkton-Lake Benton on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Flandreau 41, Garretson 21

FLANDREAU The Fliers improved to 6-3 with the win.

Morgan Sheppard led Flandreau with 15 points and five rebounds. Madison Bushkofsky had nine points and seven rebounds. Hannah Krull had eight points and six rebounds.

Brooklyn Trudeau and Khloe Susie each had six points.

Flandreau plays at Madison on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Great Plains Lutheran 31, Estelline/Hendricks 26

WATERTOWN The Panthers were able to grind out a win over the Redhawks on Tuesday. GPL led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter and then had an 11-7 lead at halftime. The Redhawks outscored the Panthers 8-3 in the third and led 15-14 heading into the fourth. Both teams got their offense going in the fourth but GPL was able to outscore EH 17-11 in the final frame.

Estelline/Hendricks was led by Brooke Johnson who had 10 points. Danelyn Greene had eight points.

GPL had three players score eight points in Kate Holmen, Katherine Prohl and Myra Lentz.

Estelline/Hendricks dropped to 2-8 and plays Deubrook Area in White on Thursday at 6:15 p.m.

Boys

Dell Rapids St. Mary 61, Elkton-Lake Benton 41

LAKE BENTON The Cardinals built a lead early and then blew the game open in the third quarter.

DRSM led 20-15 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 40-23 lead into halftime. The Cardinals then outscored the Elks 19-6 in the third quarter and led by 30 going into the fourth. ELB had a 12-2 advantage in the fourth quarter.

ELB was led by Riley Nordmeyer who had 14 points. Eliot Erickson and Tanner Drietz each had seven points.

The Cardinals were led by Trevon Beckman who had 30 points. Maverick LeBrun had nine points and Timmier Hanson had eight points.

The Elks are now 5-2 and play at Arlington on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Deuel 70, Arlington 32

ARLINGTON It was a tough night for Arlington as the Cardinals were outscored in every quarter. Deuel led 20-9 at the end of the first quarter and then had a 34-20 lead at halftime. Deuel then had a 56-30 lead heading into the fourth and outscored Arlington 14-2 in the final frame.

Arlington shot 20.3% from the field and was 3-of-21 from three. Paxton Rheault led Arlington with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Miles Antonen had eight points and 12 rebounds. Leilan Farstad had seven points and seven rebounds.

Deuel shot 37.7% from the field and was 2-of-22 from deep. Gabe Sather led Deuel with 22 points and nine rebounds. Caden Finnesand had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Kyle Finnesand had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Troy Jensen had seven points and eight rebounds.

Arlington is now 1-6 and hosts ELB on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
