Iroquois/Lake Preston boys sole area team to pick up victory

The Iroquois/Lake Preston boys basketball team was the lone winner in area basketball action over the weekend.

The Sharks beat Highmore-Harrold on Friday night. Baltic topped Colman-Egan in the other area boys game. On the girls side Mobridge-Pollock beat Flandreau, Chester topped Deubrook Area and Wilmot defeated Estelline/Hendricks.

Boys

Iroquois/Lake Preston 67, Highmore-Harrold 55

IROQUOIS A strong second quarter gave the Sharks a big lead halftime and they were able to earn the victory on Friday night.

ILP led 12-10 at the end of the first. The Sharks then outscored the Pirates 24-6 in the second quarter and led 36-16 at halftime. They would extend the lead 58-31 at the end of the third. The Pirates outscored the Sharks 24-9 in the fourth but it was too little too late.

Lucas Peskey led the Sharks with 23 points and six rebounds. Ervin Carter had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Daunte Glanzer had 12 points and Peyton Hope had 10 points.

ILP improved to 3-3 and plays Hitchcock-Tulare on Tuesday in Hitchcock at 7:45 p.m.

Baltic 52, Colman-Egan 49

BALTIC The Hawks made a comeback in the fourth quarter but came up short on Friday night.

Colman-Egan led 12-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Hawks were then outscored 12-7 in the second quarter and Baltic took a 20-19 heading into halftime. Baltic then had a 16-10 advantage in the third and led 36-29 heading into the fourth. Colman-Egan outscored Baltic 20-16 in the final quarter.

The Hawks were led by Jackson Zwart who had 21 points and eight rebounds. Jack Mousel had 10 points and Jase Mousel had seven points.

Colman-Egan is now 1-3 and plays at Mitchell Christian on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls

Mobridge-Pollock 57, Flandreau 36

MOBRIDGE It was a tough night for the Fliers as they were outscored in all four quarters.

Mobridge-Pollock led 13-5 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 25-16 lead into halftime. The Tigers extended the lead to 41-30 by the end of the third quarter and then outscored the Fliers 16-6 in the final frame.

Flandreau shot 19.6% from the field and was 3-of-18 from three. The Fliers were led by Morgan Sheppard who had 19 points and four rebounds. Addyson Hammer had 11 points and six boards.

The Tigers shot 45.5% from the field and were 7-of-20 from deep. Charley Henderson led Mobridge-Pollock with 20 points and five rebounds. Blake Thompson had 11 points and five rebounds and Tegan Knold had eight points and six boards.

Flandreau had 34 rebounds and Mobridge-Pollock had 33. The Fliers had 16 turnovers and the Tigers had 14. Flandreau was 13-of-21 at the free throw line and Mobridge-Pollock was 10-of-14.

Flandreau is now 3-3 and plays at Castlewood on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Chester 50, Deubrook Area 45

WHITE The Dolphins came up short on Friday night. Chester led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter but Deubrook outscored the Flyers 15-3 in the second quarter and led 25-17 at halftime.

However, Chester had an 18-10 advantage in the third quarter and it was tied heading into the fourth. The Flyers then outscored the Dolphins by five in the final quarter.

The Dolphins were led by Mataya Gouws who had nine points. Peyton Trooien and Zoey Molengraaf each had eight points. Matte Bauman and Kylee Johnson each had seven points.

Jacy Wolf led the Flyers with 22 points. Emmerson Eppard had 17 points.

Deubrook dropped to 5-1 and hosts Sioux Valley on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Wilmot 54, Estelline/Hendricks 48

HENDRICKS A poor fourth quarter led to the loss for the Redhawks on Friday night.

Wilmot led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Redhawks then outscored the Wolves 19-11 in the second quarter and led 31-30 at halftime. Each team scored 13 points in the third and Estelline/Hendricks led 44-43 heading into the fourth. The Wolves then outscored the Redhawks 11-4 in the fourth.

The Redhawks were led by Ayla Texley who had 24 points. Danelyn Green had 10 points.

Addison Heinje had a big night for Wilmot with 29 points. Jada Cameron had eight points and Lorn Harstad and Mya Heinje each had six points.

Estelline/Hendricks is now 1-6 and plays at Dell Rapids St. Mary on Thursday at 6 p.m.
