Jacks finish day one at Soldier Salute

CORALVILLE, Iowa – 11 Jackrabbits will have the opportunity to compete for the podium on Monday after a strong showing at the Soldier Salute on Sunday.

Impressive freshmen Cale Seaton and Logan Swensen scored wins in their opening rounds at the Solider Salute, Seaton by pinfall and Swensen by tech fall. Swensen then scored a decision win over UNIs Julian Farber to advance to the semi-finals on Monday. Seaton dropped his quarterfinal match but bounced back with a major decision over David Saenz (Wyoming). Both of the talented freshmen will compete for podium spots tomorrow.

SDSU will have three wrestlers compete for podium spots at 141 pounds as Julian Tagg and Tyson Peach scored wins in their round of 16 and quarterfinals match-ups. They compete in the semi-finals of the 141-pound bracket on Monday. Caleb Gross dropped his opening round match to Cole Brooks of Wyoming but wrestled all the way back to the podium with two decision wins and a pin.

Marcus Espinoza-Owens scored a technical fall and a major decision on his way to the semi-finals at 165 pounds. Brock Fettig also grabbed two decision wins on his way to the semi-finals at 184 pounds.

Burk Blasius, Tommy Dineen and Cody Donnelly all dropped their quarterfinals matches after wins in the round of 16. All three would score decisions in their consolation matches, allowing the trio to compete for the podium at the Soldier Salute tomorrow.
