BROOKINGS Sioux Valley, Elkton-Lake Benton and Iroquois/Lake Preston all picked up victories on Saturday in the Entringer Classic.
The Cossacks beat Colman-Egan, the Elks beat Waverly-South Shore and the Sharks topped Oldham-Ramona-Rutland. Estelline/Hendricks, Flandreau, Arlington and Deubrook Area lost on Saturday.
Sioux Valley 64, Colman-Egan 57
Sioux Valley outscored the Hawks 22-14 in the first quarter and did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
The Cossacks led 30-24 at halftime. They would stretch the lead to 44-37 at the end of the third and then led by double digits early in the fourth quarter. The Hawks cut the lead to two near the midway point of the fourth but Sioux Valley answered with a 7-0 run and that put the game away.
The Cossacks shot 64.5% from the field and were 9-of-14 from three. Sioux Valley was led by Maverick Nelson who had 18 points and was the games Most Valuable Player.
Braden Danzeisen had 15 points. Carter Sapp had eight points and eight rebounds. Brock Christopherson and Brady Hiltunen each had eight points.
The Hawks shot 38.8% from the field and were 7-of-24 from three. Jackson Zwart led the Hawks with 20 points and eight rebounds. Jack Mousel and Jase Mousel each had 15 points. Caden Zwart had seven points.
Sioux Valley had 29 rebounds and Colman-Egan had 17. The Cossacks had 23 turnovers and the Hawks had 12. Sioux Valley was 15-of-20 at the free throw line and Colman-Egan was 12-of-17.
Sioux Valley improved to 2-1 and hosts Custer on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Colman-Egan dropped to 1-2 and hosts Baltic on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Elkton-Lake Benton 78, Waverly-South Shore 55
Tanner Drietz scored an Entringer Classic record 37 points as the Elks dominated the Coyotes.
ELB outscored WSS 24-16 in the first quarter and took a 44-34 lead into halftime. The Elks then had a 14-8 advantage in the third and outscored the Coyotes 20-13 in the final quarter.
The Elks shot 49.2% from the field and were 11-of-26 from three. Drietz was 14-of-22 from the field and was 7-of-11 from beyond the arc. Tanner Stein had 12 points and Colt Beck had 11 points. Eliot Erickson had seven points.
WSS shot 55.6% from the field and was 3-of-14 from three. The Coyotes were led by Sam Appelhof who had 25 points and 11 rebounds. Zach Ries had 15 points and seven rebounds.
ELB had 23 rebounds and WSS had 33. The Elks had 10 turnovers and the Coyotes had 26. ELB had 17 steals. The Elks were 7-of-10 at the free throw line and the Coyotes were 2-of-9.
The Elks are now 2-1 and host Waubay/Summit on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Iroquois/Lake Preston 59, Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 42
The Sharks outscored the Raiders in all four quarters and cruised to the win on Saturday.
ILP led 12-7 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 30-20 lead into halftime. The Sharks then outscored the Raiders 17-11 in the third quarter and 12-11 in the final quarter.
The Sharks shot 38.1% from the field and were 2-of-28 from three. Lucas Peskey led ILP with 20 points and four assists. Carter Arbeiter had 12 points and four rebounds. Brycen Blue had 11 points and five rebounds.
ORR shot 40.9% from the field and were 3-of-13 from three. Boyd Pooler led the Raiders with 20 points. Brayden Hanson had 11 points and Rylen Olson had seven points.
The Sharks had 14 rebounds and the Raiders had 31. ILP had 19 turnovers and ORR had 27. The Sharks were 9-of-15 at the free throw line and the Raiders were 3-of-8.
ILP is now 2-2 and plays at Estelline/Hendricks on Monday at 6:30 p.m. ORR dropped to 0-4 and hosts Arlington on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
Dell Rapids St. Mary 60, Flandreau 43
A strong second half from the Cardinals gave them the win on Saturday. DRSM led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter but then was outscored 11-10 in the second quarter by the Fliers and it was 22-22 at halftime. The Cardinals then outscored the Fliers 38-21 in the second half.
DRSM shot 43.6% from the field and was 7-of-20 from three. The Cardinals were led by Maverick LeBrun who had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Trevon Beckman had 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Jake Kopsas had eight points and Trimmier Hanson had seven points.
The Fliers shot 31.9% from the field and were 3-of-17 from three. Luke Sheppard had 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead Flandreau. Kaden Bursheim had 13 points and five rebounds.
DRSM had 37 rebounds and Flandreau had 27. The Cardinals had eight turnovers and the Fliers had 11. DRSM was 5-of-7 at the free throw line and Flandreau was 10-of-10.
Flandreau dropped to 2-2 and plays at Castlewood on Jan. 7 at 6 p.m.
Deuel 65, Estelline/Hendricks 61
The Redhawks controlled the first quarter but the Cardinals would fight back in the second and third and came away with the win.
Estelline/Hendricks led 25-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Cardinals then outscored the Redhawks 20-16 in the second quarter and Estelline/Hendricks lead was cut to 41-33 at halftime. Deuel then took the lead in the third and led 52-50 heading into the fourth. The Cardinals would then outscore the Redhawks 13-11 in the final frame.
Deuel shot 43.1% from the field and was 4-of-17 from three. The Cardinals were led by Gabe Sather who had 22 points and eight rebounds. Jaxon Peterreins and Caleb Ronne each had 12 points. Ronne also had six rebounds. Troy Jensen and Caden Finnesand each had six points.
The Redhawks shot 44.9% from the field and were 8-of-18 from three. Kyler Carlson and Wyat James each had 13 points. James also had six rebounds. Braxton Pravecek and Cade Hexem each had nine points.
Deuel had 30 rebounds and Estelline/Hendricks had 28. The Cardinals had 13 turnovers and the Redhawks had 17. Deuel was 18-of-26 at the free throw line and Estelline/Hendricks was 9-of-11.
The Redhawks are now 3-1 and host Iroquois/Lake Preston on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Garretson 62, Arlington 31
Garretson used a big second quarter to pull away from Arlington and didnt look back. The Blue Dragons led 17-11 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored the Cardinals 24-8 in the second to take a 41-19 lead into halftime. They then outscored the Cardinals 21-12 in the second half.
The Blue Dragons shot 44.1% from the field and was 3-of-14 from three. They were led by Collin Olson who had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Brecken Weir and Ian Buettner each had 10 points. Treyton Decker had eight points.
Arlington shot 22.2% from the field and was 3-of-23 from three. The Cardinals were led by Paxton Rheault who had 15 points. Miles Antonen had eight points.
The Blue Dragons had 42 rebounds and the Cardinals had 25. Garretson had eight turnovers and Arlington had 18. The Blue Dragons were 7-of-11 at the free throw line and the Cardinals were 4-of-5.
Arlington is now 0-2 and plays at Oldham-Ramona-Rutland on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
Baltic 53, Deubrook Area 45
It was a tough first quarter for the Dolphins and that ended up being the difference in the game.
They were outscored 12-2 in the first quarter and then trailed 25-19 at halftime. Baltic would then outscore Deubrook 14-8 in the third to take a 39-27 lead into the fourth. The Dolphins had a 18-14 advantage in the final quarter but it was too little too late.
Baltic shot 44.4% from the field and was 7-of-16 from three. The Bulldogs were led by Dylan Runnestad who had 17 points and six rebounds. Ben Erickson had 15 points and eight rebounds. Kellen Artz had 10 points and seven rebounds. Trevor Cuperus had seven points and eight rebounds.
The Dolphins shot 26.5% from the field and was 6-of-34 from three. Isaac Gass had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead Deubrook. Braxton Bednarek had 15 points and eight rebounds. Joshua Moberg had seven points and seven rebounds and Chance Schoenfeld had six points and seven rebounds.
Baltic had 43 rebounds and Deubrook had 37. The Bulldogs had 20 turnovers and the Dolphins had nine. Baltic was 6-of-14 at the free throw line and Deubrook was 3-of-4.
The Dolphins dropped to 1-3 and play at Garretson on Tuesday at 4:45 p.m.
