Rogers leaving South Dakota State, taking job at Washington State

BROOKINGS Jimmy Rogers is leaving South Dakota State to become the head football coach at Washington State.

SDSU announced on Saturday afternoon that Rogers is resigning after accepting the position with the Cougars.

Rogers became the head coach of the Jackrabbits two years ago when long-time head coach John Stiegelmeier retired. He went 27-3 in his two seasons as the head coach of SDSU and won the FCS National Championship in his first season. Rogers won the Eddie Robinson FCS Coach of the Year Award in his first season as well.

Rogers was a linebacker at SDSU from 2006-09 and was an assistant coach under Stiegelmeier for 10 years before taking over as the head coach in 2023.

The Washington State job opened 10 days ago when Jake Dickert took the head coach position at Wake Forest. The Cougars went 8-5 last season and lost 52-35 in the Holiday Bowl to Syracuse on Thursday night.
