Ranger Roundup: Bantam A wins Omaha Tournament

The Brookings Rangers Bantam A team continued its red hot start to the season by winning the Omaha Winter Classic on Dec. 22. Brookings posted 3 shutouts over four victories on the weekend en route to the title.

Brookings 5, Omaha Black 0

The Rangers opened the long weekend with a 5-0 win over Omaha Black. Jack Lovseth scored the first two goals for Brookings, with the second coming shorthanded.

Un-Hyeng Keay had the next two for Brookings with the second on the power play. Grant Horn finished the scoring for the Rangers in the third.

Grant Horn had a pair of assists, as did Colt Vanmaanen. Graham Gerlach, Kallen Serfling and Keay also recorded assists.

Jon Drew got the shutout in net aided ably by his defensemen Brookings outshot Omaha 17-2.

Brookings 4, Des Moines 1

The Rangers then skated past the Des Moines Jr. Bucs.

Gerlach, Cannon Friedrich, Atwood Ahmann and Ethan Foerester found the net for Brookings, with Keay having the lone assist.

Drew turned away 12 of 13 shots in the win.

Brookings 3, Kansas City 0

The Rangers grinded through another defensive struggle to stay unbeaten on the weekend.

Lovseth again scored twice to lead Brookings while Forester added a goal. Vanmaanen had a pair of assists while Lovseth and Foerster each had one.
Brookings was outshot 12-9 in the defensive battle, but Drew turned away all 12 to send Brookings to championship play.

Brookings 2, Omaha 0

The Rangers then blanked Omaha Black in a rematch to capture the tournament.

After a scoreless first, Forester found the net in the second off a feed from Lovseth. Carter Nielsen found twine in the third period off a feed Weston Diers.

Brookings dominated the contest, outshooting Omaha 23-6. Drew turned away all three shots to ice the tournament.

Junior varsity

Brookings 6, Watertown 1

The Rangers JV squad moved to 4-1 in SDAHA play with a win over the Lakers in Watertown.

Maxten Jensen led the way with a pair of goals, and Mavrick Bortnem, Cooper Schneider, Lucas Hovelson and Andrew Hahn all found twine for Brookings.

Hahn had three assists to record a playmaker, and Jeremiah Hovey, Mauer Bartley and Camden Reicks also had helpers for the Rangers.

Brookings outshot Watertown 34-12 in the win, and Paxtyn Pottorff made 11 saves in net to record the win.

Bantam B

The Rangers Bantam B team went 2-2 over the tournament weekend in Omaha.

Brookings 4, Omaha Red 1

Four different Rangers found the net in the win. Liam Heiberger, Jasper Pitts, Maxx Vanderbush and Ty Harris all got on the board. Maxx Anderson, Blaine Sweber and Vanderbush all had assists. Warner Carroll stopped 12 of 13 shots in net for the win.

Brookings outshot Oamaha Red 26-13.

Kansas City 5, Brookings 1

Jasper Pitts scored on the power play in the third for the only offense from the Rangers.

Kansas City outshot Brookings 22-19.

Brookings 2, Springfield 1

Pitts led the way with a goal and an assist. Ty Harris also scored, and Heiberger added an assist. Carroll made 12 saves in net.

Des Moines 3, Brookings 1

Maxx Anderson had the only goal for Brookings, who was outshot 29-15.

Girls 14U

Brookings 2, Watertown 0

The Rangers shut out the Lakers on Dec. 20 in Watertown.

Jordyn Anderson scored the first goal from Brookings off a feed from Ashton Otteson. Khloe Ziegeldorf added a goal in the third after a pass from Grace Devries.

Avery Dentlinger made 19 saves to earn the shutout between the pipes.

Brookings 10, Mitchell 1

The Rangers then thumped the Marlins in Brookings on Dec. 22 to move to 4-1 in league play.

Brooke Kruse, Otteson and Ziegeldorf scored twice each for the Rangers. Devries, Allie Jacobson, Kinley Foerester and Brooklyn Nelson also found the back of the net.

Ziegeldorf had three assists for a playmaker, as did Devries. Beatrix Hovey-Stubbles, and Kahlei Foerster also chipped in assists.

Ava Vaughn turned away 7 shots in the win as Brookings outshot Mitchell 33-8.

Pee Wee A

Brookings 8, Brandon Valley 0

The Rangers got into the win column in SDAHA play with a shutout win over the Ice Cats in a home game for Brandon Valley that was played in Brookings.

Myles Anderson and Oliver Ahmann each scored twice for Brookings. Gavin Zweibahmer, Coy Friedrich, Luke Luvaas and Owen Rounds also found the net.

Ahmann and Friedrich were each credited with a pair of assists, as was Max Harris. Rounds, Juke Anderson, Jacob Myhre and Luvaas each also had helpers.

Brayden Brintnall made eight stops in net to record the shutout.
