The Sioux Valley girls basketball team swept a pair of games over the weekend and improved to 3-1 on the season.
The Cossacks beat Balitc at home on Friday night and then took down Arlington in the Entringer Classic on Saturday in Colman. Sioux Valley plays Custer on Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. in Volga.
Friday
Sioux Valley 68, Baltic 28
VOLGA It was easy going for the Cossacks on Friday night against the Bulldogs.
Sioux Valley outscored Baltic 20-4 in the first quarter and then extended the lead to 43-18 by halftime. The Cossacks then pushed the lead to 60-25 at the end of the third quarter and then outscored the Bulldogs 8-3 in the final frame.
Sioux Valley shot 37.7% from the field and was 8-of-31 from three. The Cossacks were led by Keyra Kruse who had 20 points and 13 rebounds. Talya Vincen had 16 points and Amari Ward had 13 points. Kailey Cradduck had eight points and eight rebounds. Talya Vincent had seven points.
Baltic shot 31.3% from the field and was 3-of-14 from three. Harper Kortmeyer led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Meredith Larson had nine points.
Sioux Valley had 38 rebounds and Baltic had 22. The Bulldogs had 26 turnovers and the Cossacks had six. Sioux Valley was 6-of-10 at the free throw line and Baltic was 5-of-10.
Saturday
Sioux Valley 61, Arlington 47
COLMAN Sioux Valley had another strong first half on Saturday night and that led to another victory.
The Cossacks led 21-15 at the end of the first quarter. They then outscored the Cardinals 22-10 in the second quarter and led 43-25 heading into the second half. Arlington would cut the lead to 52-43 heading into the fourth and then the Cossacks outscored the Cardinals 9-6 in the final quarter.
Sioux Valley shot 37.5% from the field and was 10-of-35 from three. Keyra Kruse had 16 points and six rebounds and was named the Most Valuable Player of the game. Talya Vincent also had 16 points. Amari Ward had 11 points, five rebounds and four assists. Kailey Cradduck and Liberty Trystad each had nine points. Cradduck also had six rebounds and four assists.
Arlington shot 33.3% from the field and was 5-of-19 from three. Jaelyn Huntimer led the Cardinals with 19 points and eight rebounds. Emma Spilde had 10 points.
The Cardinals had 31 rebounds and the Cossacks had 24. Sioux Valley had eight turnovers and Arlington had 17. The cossacks were 9-of-10 at the free throw line and the Cardinals were 12-of-16.
