Brookings falls in duals against Watertown

BROOKINGS The Brookings wrestling teams were swept in duals against Watertown on Friday night.

The Bobcat boys lost 64-17 and the girls fell 41-18.

Each team will participate in the Floyd Farrand Holiday Tournament at Sioux Falls Lincoln next. The girls will wrestle on Dec. 30 and the boys on Dec. 31.

Boys

Watertown 64, Brookings 17

Watertown opened the dual with two wins via forfeit. Watertowns Chase Matthews then pinned Hunter Mellon in 42 seconds at 120 and Shea Richter won a 19-4 technical over Micah Stern at 126 to make it 23-0. Gage Lohr won a 17-2 technical fall over at 138 and Kselar Swenson pinned Jack Griggs at 144 to make it 34-0.

The Arrows scored two more wins via forfeit to make it 46-0. Brookings then picked up its first win of the night at 165 when Mason Mathis won a 15-0 technical fall over Owen Petersen. Watertown won another forfeit and Gabriel Stern pinned Jensen Wientjes at 190 to make it 52-11. Blake Kennegieter pinned Ethan Eischens at 214 in 28 seconds at 215 and Watertown won via forfeit in the final match of the night to make the final 64-17.

Girls

Watertown 41, Brookings 18

Six of the 10 matches were decided by forfeit. Watertowns Brooklyn Randall won a 15-0 technical fall over Bailey TeKrony at 114 to make it 11-0. Lily Toft of Brookings then pinned Jeryn Fieber in 46 seconds at 120 and the Bobcats won the next match by forfeit to make it 12-11.

Brookings Ramsie Hinricher then pinned Josie Althoff in one minute at 132 to push the lead to 18-11. The Arrows would then win the next four matches by forfeit and Vanessa Anderson pinned Claire Millirron in 43 seconds at 100 to make the final 41-18.
