Hot 3-point shooting leads South Dakota State over Chadron State

BROOKINGS South Dakota State got back in the win column on Thursday night as the Jackrabbits beat Chadron State 87-72 at First Bank & Trust Arena.

The first 10 made shots of the game for SDSU were 3-pointers and the Jacks led 30-17 with just under 11 minutes left in the first half. The Jacks then went on an 11-4 run to go up 41-21 with six minutes left in the half. Chadron State would cut the lead to 47-30 at halftime.

SDSU led 62-40 with 13:31 left in the game and then went on a 12-4 run to push the lead to 30 with nine minutes left. The Jacks led 87-60 with 2:48 to go but the Eagles scored the final 12 points of the game to make the final 87-72.

The Jacks shot 46.3% from the field and were 20-of-49 from three. Joe Sayler and Kalen Garry each had 16 points and they each made four 3-pointers. Owen Larson, Isaac Lindsey and Jaden Jackson each had nine points. All of their points came from beyond the arc. Matthew Mors had eight points and William Whorton and Stoney Hadnot each had six points and 10 rebounds.

Chadron State shot 44.3% from the field and was 4-of-15 from three. Zy Wright led the Eagles with 15 points and eight rebounds. Darrius Miles had 14 points and eight rebounds. Jalen Thomas had 13 points and Jasiya DeDllos had 12 points.

The Jacks had 42 rebounds and the Eagles had 37. SDSU had 12 turnovers and Chadron State had nine. The Jacks were 6-of-11 at the free throw line and the Eagles were 5-of-7.

SDSU is now 9-5 on the season. The Jacks will close out the regular season at No. 6 ranked Alabama on Dec. 29. That game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m.
