FLANDREAU The Sioux Valley and Flandreau boys wrestling teams participated in a quadrangular with McCook Central/Montrose and Clark/Willow Lake on Tuesday night in Flandreau.
The Cossacks went 2-1 and the Fliers went 0-3. Sioux Valley will host a tournament on Saturday and the Fliers will participate in the Madison Tournament on Saturday.
Sioux Valley
Sioux Valley 42, Flandreau 41
Triston Kurtenbach kicked off the dual for the Cossacks with a pin of Aston Duncan in 5:29 in the 106-pound weight class. Kyson Sunberg then picked up a win by forfeit in the 113-pound match to give Sioux Valley a 12-0 lead.
Teague Bergjord had the first win of the dual for the Fliers as he pinned Rennick Wagner in 29 seconds at 120. Emisael Bonilla and Zach Pederson each picked up wins with forfeits at 126 and 132, respectively.
Gabriel Frias then gave the Fliers a 23-12 lead with a 17-1 technical fall over Matthew Field at 138. Luke Derynck of Sioux Valley pinned Dalin Billmeier at 144 in 33 seconds and Vanden Virchow won via forfeit at 150 for the Cossacks. Tyson Norgaard then gave the Cossacks a 30-23 lead with a pin of Asael Garreau in 1:18 at 157.
Hayden Pearson won via forfeit at 165 and then Justin Klein pinned Wyatt Hardt at 175 in 35 seconds to put the Fliers up 35-30. The teams then traded the lead as Harvey Hardt put the Cossacks in front with a pin of Rhyder Behnke in 2:43 at 190. However, Karter Headrick gave the Fliers back the lead with a pin of Andrew Gunderson in 24 seconds at 215.
The final match of the dual was a forfeit for Owen Vandeweerd at heavyweight and that gave Sioux Valley the win.
Sioux Valley 54, McCook Central/Montrose 30
The Cossacks won nine matches against the Fighting Cougars. Wyatt Hardt and Triston Kurtenbach each picked up wins with forfeits at 175 and 113, respectively.
Luke Derynck pinned Otto Uberty in 1:27 at 138 and Virchow pinned Levi Horstman in 2:33 at 150. Norgaard pinned Zach Gordon in 1:53 at 157.
Gunderson pinned Luke Horstman in 1:27 at 215 and Vandeweerd pinned Jacob Johnson in 5:15 at heavyweight. Sunberg pinned Caleb Hoffman in 3:33 at 106 and Wagner pinned Wyatt Uberty in 3:50 at 126.
Clark/Willow Lake 58, Sioux Valley 23
The Cyclones won the first six matches of the dual. Derynck then beat Logan Foster with a 19-4 technical fall and Virchow pinned Damian Severson in 3:07 at 150. Wyatt Hardt pinned Lincoln Reidburn in 2:23 at 175 and Vandeweerd won with a forfeit at heavyweight.
Flandreau
McCook Central/Montrose 48, Flandreau 26
The Fliers won four out of the final five matches. Hayden Pearson won a 15-0 technical fall over Gavin Bowen at 165. Preston Meyer won via forfeit at 175. Justin Klein then won a 5-2 decision over Tucker Peterson at 190 and Karter Headrick pinned Jacob Johnson in 32 seconds at 285.
Clark/Willow Lake 52, Flandreau 21
The Fliers picked up three wins against the Cyclones. Zach Pederson won a 14-0 major decision over Kooper Wookey at 126. Gabriel Frias pinned Mason Severson at 5:44 at 132 and Justin Klein pinned Lincoln Reidburn in 5:44 at 175.
