Crash injures Estelline woman

BROOKINGS COUNTY A two-vehicle accident on Friday afternoon sent an Estelline resident to Brookings Health System with injuries.

Michelle Shay, 51, was taken to the emergency room via ambulance after the vehicle she was driving, a 2011 Toyota Rav4, collided with a 2015 Kenworth box truck being driven by Jerry Bretz, 56, of Huron.

The collision was reported at 2:18 p.m. and occurred at the intersection of 471st Avenue and 204th Street a couple miles west of Interstate 29, according to a Monday news release from the Brookings County Sheriffs Office.

Bretz was driving west on 204th Street and had stopped for the eastbound stop sign, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring wrote, while Shay was traveling south on 471st Avenue. After stopping, Bretz began traveling again and Shay struck the side of the box truck.

Sebring wrote that Bretz was issued a citation for stop sign violation. Bretzs vehicle received an estimated $1,000 in damage while Shays vehicle sustained an estimated $9,600 in damage, per the release.

This incident remains under investigation by the sheriffs office. Other responding agencies were the Brookings Fire Department and Brookings Ambulance.
