BROOKINGS South Dakota State cruised to its fifth-straight victory on Wednesday night as the Jackrabbits beat Dakota Wesleyan 76-48 at First Bank & Trust Arena.
SDSU (8-2) led 6-3 just over two minutes into the game and then went on an 11-0 run to go up 16-3 at the midway point of the opening quarter. The Jacks led 22-14 at the end of the first and extended their lead near the end of the first half. SDSU led 34-23 with 5:56 left in the first half and then outscored the Tigers 11-2 the rest of the half to take a 45-25 lead into halftime.
The Jacks opened up the second half with a 12-2 run to go up by 30. In total they outscored the Tigers 16-7 in the third quarter and led 61-32 going into the fourth. SDSU scored the first five points of the fourth to make it 66-32 and that was the largest lead of the game.
SDSU shot 46.8% from the field and was 8-of-25 from three. Haleigh Timmer had a hot shooting night for the Jackrabbits as she had 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting and was 5-of-6 from three. Brooklyn Meyer had 11 points and Mesa Byom had eight points and 11 rebounds. Madison Mathiowetz and Paige Meyer each had seven points.
DWU shot 32.8% from the field and was 5-of-20 from three. The Tigers were led by Emma Yost who had eight points. Shalayne Nagel and Taliyah Hayes each had seven points. Rylee Rosenquist had six points.
The Jacks will remain at home over the weekend as theyll take on Northern Iowa on Saturday. Tip off against the Panthers is set for 4 p.m. and you can watch the game on Midco Sports Two or the Summit League Network.
