Ranger Roundup: Bantam B team takes third place at Winter Classic

The season continues to roll along for the Brookings Rangers as a third-place finish by the Bantam B team highlights this weeks Ranger Roundup.

BANTAM B

BROOKINGS The Rangers claimed third place in the Winter Classic Tournament at the Larson Ice Center from Dec. 6 through 8.

Split four games at the tournament, defeating the Boji Blizzard and the Rushmore Thunder.

Brookings 5, Boji 0

Both teams skated through a scoreless first period before Jasper Pitts opened the scoring with assists from Beau Luvaas and Liam Heiberger with 12:46 left in the second period. Blaine Zweber scored with an assist from Deacon Trumbo to double the lead with 3:56 left in the second period and the Rangers added three goals in the second period from Jackson Hahn, Pitts and Pierson Rohl.

Pitts and Landon Schumacher assisted on Hahns goal with 12:10 left in the third period while Maxx Anderson assisted on Pittss second goal with 9:06 remaining. Harris and Schumacher also assisted on Rohls goal with 6:52 left in the game.

The Rangers out-shot the Blizzard 31-8. Isaac Haufschild made eight saves for the shutout.

Lincoln 5, Brookings 1

The Stars took a 2-0 lead on goals by Benjamin Newton and Tevin Dahlberg in the first period before Trumbo scored the Rangers long goal from Zweber with 5:09 remaining.

Dahlberg and Justin Emblin scored in the second period for Lincoln before Newton scored with 12 seconds remaining in the third period.

Lincoln out-shot Brookings 32-20. Warner Carroll made 27 saves.

Mitchell 4, Brookings 2

Deyton Puetz opened the scoring for the Marlins with a power play goal in the first period but Ty Harris tied the game with a goal from Schumacher with 8:22 left in the second period.

Tate Goldammer scored a shorthanded goal with 1:24 left in the second period but Heiberger scored with an assist from Pitts with three seconds remaining to send both teams tied at 2-2 in the second intermission.

Mitchell scored the decisive goals in the third period with Kristopher Hatwan scoring the game-winning goal with 7:53 to play and Preston Maeschen adding an unassisted goal with 32 seconds to play.

Mitchell out-shot Brookings 28-14. Haufschild made 24 saves.

Brookings 6, Rushmore 5

Ty Harris opened the scoring in the third-place game with 5:24 left in the first period but Nicholas Woods scored to tie the game for Rushmore with 12:19 left in the second period.

Pitts gave Brookings a 2-1 lead with his goal from Elijah DeBoer with 4:13 left in the second period but Dylan Banker and Brayden Scherr put the Thunder on top with a 3-2 lead going into the second intermission.

Mason Huether and Tanner Norris gave Rushmore a 5-2 lead but Brookings responded with four unanswered goals in the final 10:25. Heiberger scored a power play goal from Pitts to cut into the lead while Harris brought the Rangers within a goal with an assist to Pitts with 3:08 to play.

Pitts scored the tying goal from Harris with 1:05 remaining and Harris scored the game-winner from Pitts with 31 seconds to go.

Brookings out-shot Rushmore 37-14. Carroll made nine saves.

BOYS JV

The Rangers split a pair of games on the road last weekend, falling to Yankton on Saturday night and defeating Mitchell on Sunday afternoon.

Yankton 3, Brookings 2

YANKTON Both teams skated through a scoreless first period before Cooper Schneider put the Rangers on the board with a power play goal from Mauer Bartley with 7:23 left in the second period.

Easton Anderson tied the game with a shorthanded, unassisted goal with 2:18 left in the second period and it set off a string of three unanswered goals with Oliver Crandall and Tanner Ondell giving the Bucks a 3-1 lead.

Schneider scored his second goal of the game unassisted with four minutes to play but the Rangers couldnt find the equalizer.

Brookings out-shot Yankton 31-26. Paxtyn Pottorff made 23 saves.

Brookings 8, Mitchell 4

MITCHELL Maxten Jensen put Brookings on the board with an assist from Mavrick Bortnem with 10:44 to go in the first period. Cooper Guenthener tied the game for the Marlins with 6:55 left in the first period before Jensen scored again with an assist from Bortnem with 6:07 remaining to put the Rangers up 2-1.

Jack Hohns power play goal with 4:44 left in the first period tied the game at 2-2 going into the first intermission. Power play goals by Axel Reimnitz and Caden Schuldt put Mitchell up 4-2 but the Marlins wouldnt score again as a Schneider goal with 1:10 left in the second period brought the Rangers within a 4-3 score.

Brookings finished off the game with five goals in the third period as Ready scored an unassisted goal to tie the game with 15:27 remaining and Jensen completed the hat trick to give the Rangers a 5-4 lead with 11:09 remaining.

Connor Buckley scored from Schneider and Jensen to extend the lead with 5:28 to go. Ready and Lucas Hovelson scored unassisted goals to finish the game.

The Rangers out-shot Mitchell 44-18. Trygstad made 14 saves for Brookings.

GIRLS JV

Brookings 4, Oahe 3 (OT)

BROOKINGS The Rangers won their lone game of the weekend, defeating Oahe at the First Bank & Trust Arena at the Larson Ice Center on Saturday afternoon.

Reagan Emme gave the Capitals an early lead with an unassisted goal with two minutes left in the first period. Grace DeVries tied the game with an unassisted power play goal with 12:32 left in the second period before Dakota McEntaffer gave Oahe the lead with a goal with 4:16 left in the second period.

Ashton Otteson tied the game with a goal from Allie Jacobson with 1:24 left in the second period and both teams alternated goals one more time with Piper Dooley giving Oahe a 3-2 lead and DeVries tying the game with an unassisted goal with 2:31 left in regulation.

That set the stage for DeVries to complete the hat trick and score the game-winner unassisted with 5:24 left in overtime.

Brookings out-shot Oahe 29-13. Ava Vaughn and Avery Dentlinger split time in net for the Rangers, with Dentlinger getting the win.

PEEWEE B

FARGO The Rangers won two of their four games while taking part in the Fargo Woodchipper Tournament from Dec. 6 through the eighth. Brookings picked up wins over Rugby and Hazen Beluah during the tournament.

Brookings 4, Rugby 1

Oliver Ahmann scored with an assist from Luke Luvaas with 8:22 left in the second period before Owen Rounds completed a natural hat trick in the third period.

Rounds scored his first goal from Juke Anderson with 13:38 to play and his second goal from Theo Treml and Max Harris nine seconds later before completing the hat trick with an unassisted goal with 1:14 remaining.

Brookings outshot Rugby 41-19. Brayden Brintnall made 18 saves.

Brookings 3, Wayzata Blue 3

Luvaas scored an unassisted goal with 11:51 left in the first period before Rounds scored with an assist from Ahmann with 12:05 left in the second period. Myles Anderson scored the final goal for the Rangers from Rounds and Coy Friedrich with 1:35 left in the third period.

Brintnall made 23 saves.

Sioux City Gold 8, Brookings 2

Ahmann scored a goal with 5:47 left in the first period and Rounds scored with an assist from Friedrich with 9:58 left in the third period.

Sioux City out-shot Brookings 31-23. Brintnall made 23 saves.

Brookings 7, Hazen Beluah 0

Luvaas scored from Rounds 19 seconds into the game and Ryker Schumacher added a goal from Rounds with 10:45 left in the first period. Rounds scored an unassisted goal with 3:35 left in the first and Jacob Myhres goal from Gavin Zweibahmer and Ahmann gave the Rangers a 4-0 lead at the first intermission.

Zweibahmer scored a goal from Ahmann and Myles Anderson scored from Schmacher to extend Brookings lead to 6-0 at the second intermission. Juke Anderson scored the lone goal in the third period with 12:17 left to play.

Brookings out-shot Hazen Beluah 34-12. Brintnall made 12 saves for the shutout.

PEEWEE C

FARGO The Rangers played up a level, playing in the PeeWee B Division at the Fargo Woodchipper Tournament last weekend. The Rangers won one of their four games, scoring a win over Moorhead White.

Prior Lake Gold 15, Brookings 0

The Rangers were out-shot 56-24. Nash Billings made 41 saves.

West Fargo Green 5, Brookings 2

The Rangers scored both of their goals in the first period with unassisted markers from Cooper Hyde and Knox Frericks.

West Fargo out-shot Brookings 35-10. Billings made 30 saves.

Farmington 5, Brookings 0

The Rangers were out-shot 50-9. Billings made 45 saves.

Brookings 5, Moorhead White 4 (SO)

Brodie Bahe and Hyde scored two goals each in the win. Mark Francisco and Daniel Howey were each credited with an assist.

Frericks and Howey each scored a goal in the shootout while Billings stopped four of five shots in the shootout to earn the win.

Brookings had 29 shots overall.
