WATERTOWN The Brookings Bobcats girls wrestling team had a successful start to the year, finishing in seventh place at the Watertown Girls Invitational over the weekend.
The Bobcats finished with a team total of 59 points, which tied with Huron for seventh place.
Pierre finished first at the invite with 205 points, followed by Canton (190.0), Aberdeen Central (129.5), Watertown (102.0) and Miller/Highmore-Harrold (87.5).
Kami Erickson was the top finisher for the Bobcats, placing second at 126 pounds. Erickson defeated Hurons Hsa Eh Wah at 3:13 of her first match and earned a 6-5 decision over Clark/Willow Lakes Mia Holmstrom in the quarterfinals. Erickson pinned Marin Rhode of Canton at 3:48 of the quarterfinals before falling by pin to Pierres Dani Ringstmeyer at 3:45 of the championship match.
Lily Toft placed third at 120 pounds for the Bobcats. Toft pinned Aberdeen Centrals Stella Pearson in 33 seconds in the first round and Pierres Jersey Lewis in 1:24 in the quarterfinals to begin the tournament but fell to Watertowns Olivia Anderson at 5:47 of the semifinals.
Toft bounced back for two more victories, pinning Aberdeen Centrals Jocelynn Rose in 38 seconds and Miller/Highmore-Harrold in 2:43 of the third-place match.
Bailey TeKrony placed fourth for Brookings at 114 pounds. TeKrony pinned Hurons Reva McGaugh at 3:11 in the first round and won an 8-6 decision over Cantons Nayeli Ortega in the quarterfinals. TeKrony was pinned by Pierres Gemma Stangeland in 3:58 in the semifinals before earning a 14-3 major decision over McGaugh in the consolation semifinals.
TeKrony finished the tournament after getting pinned by Ortega 34 seconds into the championship match.
Ramsie Hinricher finished seventh for the Bobcats after pinning Watertowns Jeryn Fieber at 2:38 of the first round and Wah in the second round of the consolation bracket.
The Bobcats will return to action when they take part in a triangular with Pierre and Tea Area in Pierre on Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
