BROOKINGS Work was underway Wednesday in Brookings to erect a new telecom tower at 1461 Sixth St., just behind Tropical Smoothie and west of McDonalds.
Once finished, the 171-foot tower will host an array of telecommunications equipment, both public and private. The water tower on Sixth Street, which currently houses the equipment, will be torn down sometime next year.
