The Brookings Rangers had a busy Thanksgiving weekend as many levels opened up their home schedule as part of this weeks Ranger Roundup.
Boys JV
BROOKINGS The Rangers opened the year with a pair of wins at the First Bank & Trust Rink at the Larson Ice Center over the weekend.
Brookings defeated Sioux Falls West 6-3 on Friday and Aberdeen 3-1 on Saturday to begin the season with a 2-0 record.
Brookings 6, Sioux Falls West 3
Braedon Hitt opened the scoring for Sioux Falls West 37 seconds into the game and Carter Spicer doubled it with an assist from Ashton Geiger with 14:27 left in the second period to give the Flyers an early 2-0 lead.
But Jason Ready put Brookings on the board with assists from Cade Zweber and Cooper Schneider with 10:46 left in the first period and Lucas Hovelson tied the game with an assist by Andrew Hafschild with 5:55 left in the first period.
After going into the first intermission tied at 2-2, Ready scored a power play goal with 2:22 left in the second period from Camden Riecks and Zweber to give Brookings a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
Mason Halde tied the game for the Flyers with a goal from Konnor Lindersmith with 16:13 left in the third period but Mauer Bartley put the Rangers ahead for good with an assist by Ready with 15:16 left in the game.
Jeremiah Hovey added a power play goal from Bartley and Ready with 8:35 left in the game and Rhys Heiberger scored a shorthanded, empty-net goal with 1:17 left.
Brookings out-shot Sioux Falls 29-27. Neil Trygstad made 24 saves.
Brookings 3, Aberdeen 1
Haufschild put Brookings on the board with assists from Connor Buckley and Maverick Bortnem to put the Rangers on the board 30 seconds into the game. Bortnem added a goal from Ready with 7:35 left in the first period and Ready scored an unassisted goal with 12:03 left in the third period to give Brookings a 3-0 lead.
Brady Oswald scored from Logan Fischbach to make it a 3-1 game with 7:30 left in the third period but Paxtyn Pottorff made 15 saves to seal the win.
Brookings out-shot the Cougars 27-16.
Girls JV
Sioux Falls 2, Brookings 1
BROOKINGS The Rangers fell in their lone game of the weekend, dropping a 2-1 game to Sioux Falls at the Brookings Dental Clinic Rink at the Larson Ice Center on Saturday.
Halle Watson scored to open the scoring with 10:51 left in the first period before Grace DeVries tied it with an unassisted goal with 8:42 left in the first. Callie Pederson scored the game-winning goal from Mackenzie Pederson and Lucy Nelson to give the Flyers the win.
Sioux Falls out-shot Brookings 20-10. Avery Dentlinger made 18 saves for Brookings.
Bantam A
BROOKINGS The Rangers opened the season with wins in each of their first three games, defeating Brandon Valley on Friday night, Sioux Falls Blue on Saturday night and Mitchell on Sunday night for a sweep at the Brookings First Bank & Trust Rink at the Larson Ice Center last weekend.
Brookings 12, Brandon Valley 0
The Rangers scored five goals in the first period, four goals in the second period and three goals in the third period while Jon Drew stopped both shots to earn a shutout victory on Friday night.
Jack Lovseth opened the scoring for the Rangers with an unassisted goal with 14:07 left in the first period and added to the lead with his assist on Ethan Foersters goal with 12:08 left in the first period.
Tegan Jensen scored his first goal of the year from Un-Hyeng Keay and Carter Neilsen with 8:05 left in the first period before Foerster scored his second goal of the game from Lovseth and Lovseth scored an unassisted power play goal to give Brookings a 5-0 lead.
Lovseth completed the hat trick with assists from Atwood Ahmann and Foerster with 12:11 left in the second period before Foerster followed suit with an assist from Ahmann with 11:28 left in the second period.
Thor Zell scored with an assist from Grant Horn to cap with 8:12 left in the second period before Colt VanMaanen scored from Lovseth and Foerster to run the lead up to 9-0 with 3:08 left in the second period.
Keay scored an unassisted goal, Foerster scored his fourth goal of the game from VanMaanen and Lovseth scored his fourth goal of the game from Foerster and VanMaanen in the third period.
Brookings out-shot the Ice Cats 46-2.
Brookings 1, Sioux Falls Flyers Blue 0
Horns goal from Friedrich and VanMaanen with 5:11 left in the second period proved to be the difference in a win on Saturday night.
Drew stopped all 12 shots for the shutout while Brookings out-shot the Flyers 12-10.
Brookings 9, Mitchell 0
Teagan Jensen scored an unassisted goal with 13:44 left in the first period to open the scoring and added a second goal from Keay with 3:58 left in the opening frame to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
The Rangers added four goals in the second period with Lovseth opening the scoring with an assist from VanMaanen with 10:14 left in the second period. Three power play goals extended the lead later in the second period as Friedrich scored from Ahmann with 9:39 left in the second period; Foerster scored from Ahmann and Nielsen with 4:56 remaining; and Foerster scored from Lovseth with 2:08 to go.
In the third period, Foerster added a goal from VanMaanen and Lovseth and a second goal from Lovseth while Weston Diers scored with an assist from Horn to finish the game.
The Rangers out-shot the Marlins 44-4. Drew made all four saves.
Bantam B
BROOKINGS The Brookings earned a pair of wins, defeating Sioux Falls Orange on Saturday and Yankton on Sunday at the First Bank & Trust Rink at the Larson Ice Center.
Brookings 5, Sioux Falls Orange 4
Both teams skated through a scoreless first period before Austin Larson scored a shorthanded goal from Ty Norgaard and Owen Schramm at 13:11 of the second period.
Ty Harris scored an unassisted power play goal with 9:54 left in the second period but the Flyers responded with two unanswered goals by Jaeger Prinsen and Schramm.
The frantic pace in the second period continued, however, as Jasper Pitts scored from Ty Harris and scored again on a power play goal from Maxximillion Vanderbush with 1:36 left in the second period to tie the game at 3-3. But Norgaard scored from Austin Larson with 15 seconds left in the second to send the Flyers into the intermission up 4-3.
The Rangers had one last rally in the third period when Beau Luvaas tied the game with an assist from Ty Harris with 8:01 left in the third period. Harris scored the game-winning goal from Zweber with 25 seconds to go to give Brookings the win.
Brookings out-shot the Flyers 33-23. Isaac Haufschild made 19 saves.
Brookings 9, Yankton 5
After Payton Svandas unassisted goal opened the scoring for Yankton Kaeden Kalber scored on an assist from Pitts to tie the game at 1-1 in the first period.
The goal started a frantic first period that saw the Miracle and Rangers combine for seven goals but five of them belonged to Brookings. Harris scored an unassisted goal to give Brookings a 2-1 lead with 7:48 left in the first period before Roland Marlette tied the game just over a minute later. Elijah Deboer and Harris (from Maxx Anderson) put the Rangers back in front before Pitts scored a goal from Anderson and Landon Schumacher with 23 seconds left in the opening period to give Brookings a 5-2 lead.
Liam Heiberger scored from Pitts with 4:18 left in the second period before Brody Wrage scored to make it a 6-3 game going into the second intermission. The third period was another flurry with Harris scoring an unassisted goal and Pitts scoring a power play goal from Harris and Anderson to put the Rangers up 9-3 and after a pair of Yankton goals by Easton Dimmer, Blaine Zweber scored the final goal of the game from Pitts with 1:22 remaining.
The Rangers out-shot the Miracle 40-20. Warner Carroll made 15 saves for Brookings.

BROOKINGS The Rangers were out-shot by the Flyers 38-29.

Daniel Howey scored twice in the first period with assists by Mark Francisco and Brodie Bahe to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead and Spencer Lovseth scored in the third period to give Brookings the win.
The Rangers out-shot the Flyers 21-12. Nash Billings made 12 saves.
Brookings 6, Mitchell 0
Knox Frericks and Francisco scored goals in the first period to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead. William Diercks scored with assists be Frericks and Howey with 7:49 remaining in the second period and Bahe scored an unassisted goal to put Brookings up 4-0 after two periods.
Cooper Hyde scored a pair of goals with the first one being assisted by Howey to finish the game off for Brookings in the third period.
Brookings outshot the Marlins 31-11. Porter Vanderbush stopped all 11 shots to earn the shutout.

Brookings 16, Sioux City Musketeers 6
SIOUX FALLS The Rangers lit up the scoreboard in a 16-6 win over Sioux City on Sunday afternoon.
Sutton Jensen led the way with seven goals and one assist. Eliott Ahmann had two goals and three assists. Colton Hendricks and Finn Konechne each had a goal and three assists. Callen Fogelson had two goals. Kaden Ziegeldorf, Hendrix Schmeichel and Callen Fogelson each scored a goal.
