VOLGA The Sioux Valley Cossacks had a successful start to the season as they won two out of three duals during a quadrangular at the Cossack Center on Tuesday night.
Sioux Valley will return to action when it competes in the Flandreau Invitational on Saturday morning.
Canton 54, Sioux Valley 17
Aiden Schaeffer opened the dual with a win by forfeit at 132 pounds before Tate Steffensen pinned Cantons Shan Sehr at 1:10 of their match at 138 pounds.
Luke Derynck earned a 17-1 tech fall over Camdyn Ockenga at 144 pounds and Vanden Virchow pinned Wyatt Tuntland at 2:50 of their match at 150 pounds to give Sioux Valley a 17-6 lead.
But the Cossacks wouldnt win another match for the remainder of the dual beginning with Conner Giedds pinfall victory over Tyson Norgaard at 1:16 of a 157-pound match.
Aidan Kranz pinned Wyatt Hardt at 0:59 at 175 pounds; Jase Kroger earned a 4-3 decision over Harvey Hardt at 190 pounds; Gunnar Swenson pinned Luke Johnson in 1:08 at 215 pounds; Hunter Richmond earned a 4-0 decision over Owen Vandeweerd at 285 pounds; Bode Walker earned a 4-1 decision over Kyson Sundberg at 106 pounds; Blaise Bentz earned a 17-8 major decision over Triston Kurtenbach at 113 pounds; and Landon Walker earned an 18-1 tech fall over Rennick Wagner at 120 pounds.
Chase Adam (165 pounds) and Zach Bartels (126 pounds) earned forfeit victories for Canton.
Sioux Valley 47, Howard 21
Dubbhlainn Vermeulen pinned Drew Maier at 144 pounds for Sioux Valley and Virchow followed up with another pin at 3:12 of a 150-pound match against Hoyt Kizer.
Gile Rud scored a pin at 4:10 of a 175-pound match against Kreyton Karstens while Owen Vandeweerd pinned Thomas Halverson at 2:20 of their 285-pound match.
Sundberg earned a 21-5 tech fall over Gabe Miller at 4:41 of their 106-pound match and Steffensen (138 pounds), Tyson Norgaard (157 pounds), and Rennick Wagner (120 pounds) earned forfeit victories for Sioux Valley.
Howards Nolan Mentele pinned Wyatt Hardt at 2:00 of their 190-pound match, Gabriel Martian pinned Luke Johnson at 1:16 of their 215-pound match and Michael Becker earned a 10-8 decision over Kurtenbach at 113 pounds.
Sioux Valley 48, Parker 30
Derynck pinned Parkers Devin Kutchta at 3:29 of their 144-pound match. Wyatt Hardt pinned Teegun Wentzel in 34 seconds at 175 pounds.
Vendeweerd pinned Donald Gergen at 3:46 at 285 pounds, Sundberg pinned Brysen Baloun at 2:42 of a match at 113 pounds and Steffensen pinned Colten Preheim at 138 pounds in 3:48.
Michael Even pinned Virchow in 57 seconds at 150 pounds; Jeremiah Friman pinned Norgaard at 1:58 at 157 pounds. Dylan Buseman pinned Harvey Hardt at 1:21 in a 190-pound match.
Sioux Valleys Luke Johnson (215 pounds) and Parkers Alek Kuchta (132 pounds) each earned wins by forfeit.
