BROOKINGS South Dakota State improved to 7-2 on the season on Monday as the Jackrabbits beat Dakota Wesleyan 78-62 at First Bank & Trust Arena.
The Tigers played with the Jacks for the first 12 minutes of the game, but SDSU eventually put together a run and then held a double-digit lead for all but 16 seconds in the second half.
DWU was hot from beyond the arc right away and the Tigers led 16-10 seven minutes into the game. The Tigers were then up 23-18 with eight minutes left in the first half and the Jacks would outscore them 21-5 the rest of the half and took a 39-28 lead into the locker room.
The Tigers cut the lead to 43-34 with 16:17 left in the game but SDSU then went on a 12-2 run to go up 55-36 with 12:02 to play and that was the Jacks largest lead of the game. DWU would cut into the lead again though as it was 60-49 with just under eight minutes to play. However, SDSU had one more run to fully put the game away as the Jacks led 72-54 with 3:18 left and were able to cruise to the finish line.
The Jacks shot 57.1% from the field and were 5-of-18 from three. They had 12 turnovers and were 9-of-16 at the free throw line.
Oscar Cluff led the way with 20 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. He was 10-for-10 from the field. Stoney Hadnot had 13 points and Jaden Jackson had 10 points. Kalen Garry had nine points. Joe Sayler, Owen Larson and Matthew Mors each had six points.
DWU shot 33.8% from the field and was 12-of-32 from three. The Tigers were led by Samuel Aslesen who had 14 points. Randy Rosenquist had 10 points and Ethan Determan had seven points.
Cluff wins Player of the Week
Cluff won his second Summit League Peak Performer of the Week Award on Monday afternoon for his performance in two of SDSUs three games in the Cayman Islands Classic. He averaged 19 points, 13 rebounds and shot 70% from the field in the two games. In the third-place game victory over Missouri State he had 20 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.

The Jacks will play at Montana in the Big Sky/Summit League Challenge on Wednesday. Tip off for that game is scheduled for 8 p.m. CST. SDSU will then host Eastern Washington in the challenge on Saturday at 6 p.m.
