Bobcats finish second in season-opening quadrangular

BROOKINGS The Brookings Bobcats opened the season by finishing second in a home quadrangular featuring Sioux Falls Lincoln, Sioux Falls Washington and Huron at Bob Jostad Gymnasium at Brookings High School on Monday night.

The Bobcats finished with a total of 131.5 team points, which was just behind the Patriots, who finished first with 132.2 points. Huron finished third with 110.65 points and Washington finished fourth with 61.25 points.

Layla Erickson had a strong opening night for the Bobcats finishing with a total score of 35.850 in all-around. Ava Petterson finished fourth in all-around with a score of 32.700, Nevaeh Strohfus finished fifth with a score of 31.900, Lexi Norgaard finished sixth with a score of 31.800 and Kennedy Ronning finished eighth with a score of 30.300.

Erickson finished first in the vault with a score of 8.9500, just ahead of Lincolns Lauryn Gohls score of 8.800 and Jackie Ericksons score of 8.2500.

Ronning finished sixth in the vault with a score of 8.100 and Petterson finished seventh with a score of 7.9500. Strohfus finished ninth with a score of 7.900, Norgaard finished 12th with a score of 7.5000 and Addison Steinhoff finished 16th with a score of 7.3500.

Petterson was the top finisher for Brookings in the bars, finishing third with a score of 7.900. Ronning finished fifth with a score of 7.7500, Erickson and Strohfus finished tied for seventh with a score of 7.5500, Addison Haggerty finished ninth with a score of 7.4500 and Norgaard finished 10th with a score of 7.3500.

Norgaard finished second in the beam for Brookings with a score of 8.900. Erickson finished third with a score of 8.500, Petterson finished fourth with a score of 8.4500, Strohfus finished fifth with a score of 7.9500, Steinhoff finished ninth with a score of 7.5500 and Ronning finished 16th with a score of 6.2000.

Erickson finished first in the floor exercise with a score of 8.9000. Strohfus finished fourth with a score of 8.500, Petterson finished fifth with a score of 8.4000, Ronning finished seventh with a score of 8.2500, Norgaard finished 10th with a score of 8.0500 and Steinhoff finished 16th with a score of 6.9000.

Gohl finished first in the bars with a score of 8.8000 and first in the beam with a score of 9.4500. She also finished first in the all-around with a score of 35.850.

Brookings will have their first road meet of the year when they travel for the Pierre Invitational on Saturday morning.
