MONROE A 39-year-old man from Monroe died Tuesday morning in a head-on collision 10 miles northeast of Monroe.
The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2012 Volkswagen CC Sport was traveling east on state Highway 42 near the intersection of 454th Avenue when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with an approaching tanker truck.
The driver of the Volkswagen died at the scene from his injuries. The driver of the tanker truck, a 52-year-old man from Mitchell, was not injured.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
