The Brookings Rangers PeeWee A hockey team was runner-up at the Brookings Winter Classic and several levels opened their season as part of this weeks Ranger Roundup.
PEEWEE A
BROOKINGS The Rangers took second place in the Brookings Winter Classic Tournament last weekend earning wins over the St. James Canucks, Winona Winhawks and Rushmore Thunder.
Brookings 6, St. James 2
Brady Bjorklund scored with 2:24 to give the Canucks the lead going into the first intermission and Jack McFee put Brookings in a 2-0 hole with his goal from Rylan Batchelor with 10:14 remaining in the second period.
Luke Luvaas put Brookings on the board with an assist from Oliver Ahmann with 10:05 left in the second period and Luke Luvaas scored unassisted to tie the game with 5:37 left in the second period.
Owen Rounds scored a power play goal from Coy Friedrich and Myles Anderson with 3:09 left in the second period and Brookings hit the gas with three goals in the third period.
Rounds scored a shorthanded goal with 7:31 left in the game before Ryker Schumacher added a goal from Anderson and Gavin Zweibahmer with 3:46 to go and Max Harris scored from Rounds and Ahmann with 1:33 to play.
Brookings out-shot St. James 33-19. Brayden Brintnall earned the win, stopping 17 shots for the Rangers.
Brookings 5, Winona 3
Ahmann opened the scoring with an unassisted goal with 5:15 left in the first period but Damon Miller and Ezra Vail scored back-to-back goals to give the Winhawks a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
Rounds tied the game with an unassisted goal with 7:48 left in the second period and Anderson gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead with seven seconds remaining.
Rounds scored his second goal of the game to give Brookings a 4-2 advantage with 13:31 left in the third period. Benjamin Monson cut the lead in half with a power play goal from Peter Knudson with 12:25 remaining but Ahmann scored from Anderson with 1:49 to play to seal the win.
Brookings out-shot the Winhawks 31-20. Brintnall made 17 saves for the Rangers.
Brookings 5, Rushmore 1
Rylan Trainer scored the lone goal for Rushmore with 5:27 left in the first period but Rounds responded with the first of five unanswered goals with 13:56 to go in the second period.
Ahmann scored from Anderson with 5:36 left in the second period and with 1:02 left in the second period to help the Rangers take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. Anderson scored with 9:27 to play in the third and Ahmann scored from Rounds with 7:19 remaining.
Brookings out-shot Rushmore 20-14. Brintnall made 13 saves.
Omaha 6, Brookings 0
Greyson Shrock scored four goals while adding an assist while James Stewart and Kyler Christensen scored in the third period to give Omaha the tournament title.
Omaha out-shot Brookings 28-18. Brintnall made 22 saves.
GIRLS JV
Brookings 9, Sioux Center 1
The Rangers started fast with four goals in the first period. Khloe Ziegeldorf opened the scoring with a goal with 13:36 left in the opening period and scored another unassisted goal to give Brookings a 2-0 lead with 9:20 left in the first.
Jordyn Anderson scored with an assist from Lorelei Koch 50 seconds later and Ashton Otteson scored with assists by Brooke Kruse and Nola Hogie with 8:02 left in the first period to put the Rangers up 4-0.
Kruse scored with assists from Otteson and Audrey Andal with 12:23 left in the second period and Otteson scored an unassisted goal to run the lead up to 6-0 with 7:58 left in the second period.
Riya Brenner scored the lone goal for Sioux Center with 6:59 left in the second period before Anderson scored her second goal of the game from Ziegeldorf with 5:49 remaining to send the Rangers into the second intermission up 7-1.
Ziegeldorf completed the hat trick with an assist from Koch with 13:45 left in the third period and Grace DeVries scored a power play goal with an assist from Koch with 6:45 left in the game.
The Rangers out-shot the Storm 28-13. Avery Dentlinger made 12 saves in goal to earn the win.
BANTAM B
Sioux Center 2, Brookings 1
Both teams skated through a scoreless first period before Sioux Centers Braden Metselaar scored with 9:12 left in the second period. Jasper Pitts answered with assists from Ty Harris and Maxx Anderson with 3:56 left in the second period but Carson Mosterd scored the game-winner for the Storm with 11:51 remaining in the third period.
Brookings out-shot the Storm 36-17.
PEEWEE C
BROOKINGS The Rangers hosted the Brookings Winter Classic at the Larson Ice Center, earning wins over Watertown and Shakopee in their four games.
Faribault 7, Brookings 4
Adrian Almjeld scored from Spencer Loveseth and William Diercks with 4:09 left in the first period but the Rangers entered the first intermission down 3-1.
After a scoreless second period, Knox Frericks scored a power play goal from Brodie Bahe with 13:34 left in the game and Cooper Hyde scored an unassisted goal 28 seconds later. Diercks scored the Rangers third goal of the third period from Joey Francisco with 12:39 remaining but the Falcons scored three times in the third to earn the win.
Faribault out-shot the Rangers 28-8. Nash Billings made 21 saves.
Prior Lake 9, Brookings 2
Daniel Howey scored an unassisted goal with 2:10 left in the first period. Almhjeld scored from Bahe with 2:15 left in the third period to cap the scoring.
Prior Lake out-shot Brookings 18-11. Porter Vanderbush made nine saves.
Brookings 8, Watertown 3
Cooper Hyde scored six goals including unassisted goals with 10:19 and 4:59 left in the first period and 13:58 left in the second period. Hydes fourth goal came with an assist from Frericks with 9:44 left in the second period before Bahe scored from Diercks with 3:45 to play in the second.
Hyde added two more unassisted goals with 1:36 left in the second period and 14:44 left in the third and Daniel Howey scored with 12:52 remaining to cap the scoring for Brookings.
Brookings out-shot Watertown 28-12. Billings made nine saves.
Brookings 5, Shakopee 4
Both teams skated through a scoreless first period before Spencer Lovseth scored with 5:06 left in the second period and Bahe scored from Almhjeld with 1:45 left in the second period.
After taking a 2-1 lead into the third period, Bahe scored an unassisted goal with 9:40 to play before Howey scored with an assist by Emmett Berkenhoff with 8:49 to go and an assist from Diercks with 4:40 to go to earn the win.
Brookings out-shot Shakopee 28-27. Billings made 23 saves.
