Kymber Buys named honorable mention for All-ESD team

BROOKINGS Brookings Bobcats setter Kymber Buys capped off her career by being named an honorable mention for the All-Eastern South Dakota Conference Team on Monday.

Buys tied for the team lead with 31 aces this season while also posting 216 digs. She also logged 375 assists and 124 kills during her senior year.

Overall, Buys spent three seasons as a starter for the Bobcats and racked up a school-record 95 aces during her career. The senior was also a key member of the Brookings defense, racking up 540 digs and contributing offensively with 1,575 assists and 211 kills.

Buys was the lone Bobcat mentioned for this years ESD team which was led by Harrisburg, who had four selections in seniors Karalynn Leach and Maggie Meister; junior Gabi Zachariasen; and freshman Josalyn Samuels.
Watertown had three seniors named to the team including Grace Corey, Madisyn Grimsrud and Emery Thury.

Other team members included Aberdeen Central sophomores Lauryn Burckhard and Alivia Miller; Brandon Valley juniors Abby Gruber and Jayunna Stroh; and Huron junior Hylton Heinz.

Mitchell junior Addie Simensen, Watertown senior Natalie Pearson and Yankton sophomore Jade Jere were also honorable mentions.
