RAPID CITY Northern Colorado handed the South Dakota State men their first loss on Thursday night at The Monument in Rapid City as the Bears beat the Jackrabbits 78-69.
It was the first time that the Jacks played in Rapid City in 25 years. UNC seized control midway through the first half and led 43-33 at halftime. SDSU scored the first basket of the second half but the Bears then went on a 15-5 run to go up 18 and that was their largest lead of the game.
SDSU shot 32% from the field and was 5-of-27 from three. Oscar Cluff led the Jacks with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Joe Sayler had 10 points and Kalen Garry and Matthew Mors each had nine points. Stoney Hadnot had nine points and eight rebounds.
The Bears shot 48% from the field. They were led by Isaiah Hawthorwne who had 21 points and five rebounds. Langston Reynolds had 16 points and Zach Bloch had 15 points. Jaron Rillie had 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
The Jacks are now 3-1 and will return to First Bank & Trust Arena on Monday to host Mount Mart at 7 p.m.
