Elkton-Lake Benton falls to Hamlin in 9AA semifinals

HAYTI The Elkton-Lake Benton football season came to an end on Friday night as the Elks fell to Hamlin 20-16 in the Class 9AA semifinals.

Hamlin led 14-6 after the first quarter and then extended the lead to 20-6 before halftime. The Elks were able to cut the lead to 20-16 in the third quarter, but both teams were scoreless in the fourth.

The Elks had 152 yards rushing. Quarterback Colt Beck led the way with 101 yards on 16 carries. Blake De Vries had 31 yards on eight carries.

Beck was 7-of-15 with 207 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Tanner Drietz had three catches for 112 yards and a touchdown. Tanner Stein had four catches that went for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Stein led the ELB defense with 13.5 tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss. De Vries had 11 tackles and two tackles for a loss. Taiton Boersma had six tackles and three for a loss. Quintin Westley had five tackles and two for a loss. Teigan Krog had seven tackles.

The Elks finished the season with a record of 9-2. Both losses came to the Chargers. Hamlin will take on Parkston in the Class 9AA championship game at 7 p.m. Thursday.
