FARGO, N.D. South Dakota State is heading to the Summit League Tournament championship for the ninth time in program history as the Jackrabbits beat Denver 2-1 in the semifinals on Thursday afternoon.
SDSU got revenge from a 2-1 loss to Denver that came two weeks ago in Brookings.
The Jacks will look to win their eighth tournament title on Sunday when they take on Oral Roberts on Sunday at 1 p.m. after the Golden Eagles beat North Dakota State in penalty kicks on Thursday.
SDSUs first goal of Thursdays match came on a penalty kick. Hailee Christensen was fouled in the box in the 29th minute and Kaycee Manding took the kick and buried it to make it 1-0.
Denver nearly scored two different times before the end of the first half but neither shot was recorded on goal. SDSU then doubled its lead in the 61st minute.
Christensen put a shot on goal and it was saved by Denvers Molly Wissman. The ball then sailed into the air in front of the net and Avery LeBlanc let the ball land and she kicked it in to make it 2-0.
Denver was able to muster a goal with just one minute to play as Jadyn Goodrich scored for the Pioneers and that made the final 2-1.
SDSU had 14 shots and eight of them were on goal. Denver had 12 shots but just two were on goal. The Jacks had four corner kicks and 13 fouls. The Pioneers had two corner kicks and 16 fouls.
The Jacks were led by Katherine Jones who had three shots and two of them were on goal. Mia Bosch and Christensen had two shots and one was on goal. Manding, LeBlanc, Adrianne Agbayani and Lauren Eckerle each had one shot that was on goal.
SDSU beat Oral Roberts 1-0 in the regular season finale on Oct. 27. You can watch Sundays match on the Summit League Network.
