OMAHA South Dakota State continued its winning ways on Thursday night as the Jackrabbits beat Omaha in four sets.
SDSU is now 21-0 and thats the best start in program history. The two teams split the first two sets. Omaha led 10-5 in the first set but the Jacks then scored 11 straight points to go up 16-10. They would push the lead to 23-15 and then won the set 25-18.
Omaha jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the second. The Mavericks pushed the lead to 22-9 and eventually won the set 25-12.
The Jacks and Mavericks then traded points to begin the third set as Omaha led 8-7. The Mavericks then went up 11-8 before SDSU went on a 5-1 run to go up 16-12. That lead was steady the rest of the set as the Jacks won 25-20.
SDSU kept the momentum going in the fourth set as it scored the first six points of the set. The Jacks then led 14-8 before scoring four straight to push the lead to 10. Omaha cut the lead to 20-13 but SDSU then scored five of the next seven points to secure the match victory.
SDSU had 47 kills and hit .230. Omaha had 50 kills and hit .182. The Jacks had 43 assists and 65 digs. The Mavericks had 48 assists and 66 digs.
SDSU was led by Sylvie Zgonc who had 13 kills and 14 digs. Rylee Martin had 21 assists and 10 digs. Katie Van Egdom had nine kills and Rachel Wieber had 10 digs. Joslyn Richardson had 13 digs and Camryn Honn had 15 assists and six digs. Madison Burr had eight kills.
Omaha was led by Kamryn Jurgensmeier who had 17 kills. Shayla McCormick had 11 kills and 15 digs. Ivy Leuck had 29 assists and Erica Fava had 12 digs.
With the win the Jacks are now in the drivers seat for the No. 1 seed in the Summit League Tournament as SDSU is 10-0, Omaha dropped to 9-2 and South Dakota is 8-3. SDSU has six games remaining on its schedule and will play at Kansas City on Saturday at 1 p.m.
