BROOKINGS The South Dakota State womens basketball team took the floor for the first time on Tuesday night and the Jackrabbits took care of business against St. Cloud State, winning 77-44.
It was SDSUs top returner that led the Jackrabbits as Brooklyn Meyer scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Mesa Byom had 11 points and Paige Meyer had nine points. Madison Mathiowetz had seven points and five assists.
The five freshmen on the Jacks all saw playing time in the win, but Katie Vasecka had the biggest impact. The Tea native scored 11 points in her first game in Brookings. Emilee Fox, Jaiden Dunn and Claire Sheppard all scored as well as freshmen.
In total, SDSU played 13 players and 12 of them scored. SDSU forced 20 turnovers in the victory.
The Jackrabbits will open the regular season on the road as they play at Rice on Monday night. Tip off between the Jacks and Owls is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Houston and you can watch the game on ESPN+.
