Flandreau blows out Beresford in regular season finale

BERESFORD The Flandreau Flier offense was rolling on Friday night and the Fliers closed out the regular season with a 35-7 victory over Beresford.

Flandreau quarterback Paul Parsley was 8-for-12 with 274 yards and four touchdowns. Cam Flute had four catches for 177 yards and two scores. Luke Sheppard had two catches for 69 yards and both catches went for touchdowns. Ben Ballard had one catch that went for 19 yards and Karter Headrick had a nine-yard reception.

Headrick also had 12 carries for 99 yards. Parsley had six carries for 56 yards and Ben Ballard had seven carries for 43 yards and a touchdown. Flute had 15 yards on three carries.

The Flier defense was led by Kody Kneebone who had seven tackles and a fumble recovery. Justin Klein had nine tackles and Parsley and Ben Ballard each had seven tackles. Gage Ballard had five tackles and a sack and Flute had three tackles and an interception.

Our boys played very well and I am very proud of the way they played, said Flandreau head coach Josh Edlund. Offensively, Paul Parsley had a record setting day with 274 yards passing and four touchdowns. Cam Flute also had a single game record for receiving with 177 yards and two touchdowns. Karter Headrick ran very hard and got our running game going with 12 carries and 99 yards. Ben Ballard had 62 total yards and a TD as well.

It was a great day for us all around on offense, Coach Carr had a great gameplan, things were working very well, he called a great game. Our offensive line was winning a lot of battles up front, everything started with those guys working as hard as they did up front.

Edlund added that he was also proud of the way his defense played.

Defensively, coach [Joe] Parsley had a great game plan as well. We knew what they were going to try to do and we were prepared for it. Justin Klien led the team in tackles. Our defensive line got into the quarterback’s lap a bunch, and our defensive backs played with very good eyes all game. Cam Flute had a nice pick towards the end of the game and we recovered a fumble. Defensively, it was a great team win, Edlund said.

Flandreau finished the regular season with a record of 5-3 and will be the No. 13 seed in the Class 11B Playoffs. The Fliers play at No. 4 Elk Point-Jefferson on Thursday. Kickoff time has not been set yet.
