I am pleased to have the opportunity to support Mellissa Heermann for a second term in the South Dakota House of Representatives. During the last two years I found Mellissa to be easy to work with and a ready ally in representing common sense legislature. She is thoughtful in her approach and diligent in her research of the topics.
During the 2024 session, I reached out to Mellissa to discuss SB 98, which established the admissibility of evidence of prior similar crimes in child molestation cases. The bill was designed to help prosecutors introduce evidence of a defendants previous behavior, which can demonstrate a pattern of abusive conduct. When resistance was met with a similar bill, Mellissa did not hesitate to rise in support of protecting children and identifying bad actors.
I appreciate Mellissas heart for children and families, her dedication to her role as legislator, and for her thoughtful leadership. When the time comes for you to vote in the Nov. 5 general election, I urge you to vote Mellissa Heermann to continue to represent District 7 in the South Dakota House of Representatives.
