Yankton crash kills 5-year-old child

YANKTON A 5-year-old girl died after being struck by a vehicle in Yankton on Tuesday morning.

The names of the people involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a Chevy Silverado, a 60-year-old man from Yankton, was reentering the roadway on east 19th Street near Mulberry Street at a four-way stop. At the same time, the girl was crossing the street and was struck by the truck. The driver did not see the child.

The girl was taken to a Yankton hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

TheSouth Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.All information released so far is only preliminary.
